Actor John Cusack has apologised after sharing an anti-Semitic image with fans on Twitter .

The Hollywood star, 52, was slammed after retweeting a cartoon of a giant hand with a Star of David on the sleeve, which was crushing a crowd of people below it.

The meme also quoted Neo-Nazi Kevin Alfred Storm, although it attributed the quote to Voltaire instead.

It said: "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize."

No, it's not, although the sentiment is not "un-Voltairian." It was most likely penned (and disseminated) by a neo-Nazi who was convicted and jailed for possessing child pornography. And, like so much other misinformation on the web, the false attribution gets passed around with abandon and taken for truth ...

From the article linked to OP

“He added that he had initially believed the image was criticising Israel, and didn't realise the source of the meme, or the anti-Semitic implications.”

Then you are an idiot.

The rise of Anti semitism and jew hating is on the rise, in the UK the Labor party is infested with jew hating anti semites and i have friends who are labor supporters who are not ashamed to spout it in public and online.

The funny thing is it is Liberals, Trump haters and the left who are the real facists and jew haters and intolerant of other all while trying to say they are fighting facists.

They really are delusional in their hatred of jews and its disgusting.

No. You are totally wrong suggesting Jew hating comes only from the left. Please stop spreading blatant lies.

The actual truth is that the Jew hating comes from three major sources --

Left wing (as you say) often thinly disguised as Israel demonization. (Of course not all criticism of Israeli government policies is that, it's usually very easy to tell the difference)

"Traditional" right wing / white nationalist / "Christian" cultural based Jew hatred. Most famously Nazis but that had roots in thousands of years of European history.

Islamist rooted

Lets be honest here

You are one of the jew haters and just by your comment that is clear

The ONLY PEOPLE I am seeing hating on Jews and on a REGULAR basis is Liberals and the left and especially the Labor Party and supporters of it in the UK.

As for White Nationalists KKK etc that group is so small in the USA these days it is just used as a deflection from the real root of the problem LIBERALS and of course as you say Muslims who hate jews with a passion.

I agree with you that there is antisemitism coming from the left. But hardly only from the left, and hardly all of the left is anti-Semitic. Speaking as a liberal Jew that strongly supports the right of Israel to exist and defend herself but still critical of Israeli government policies. Cheers dude.

I already knew you were a Liberal Jew (you forgot the gay part but you can save that for another day ???? when it suits your agenda

My entire biography didn't seem at all relevant to this topic which is about Jews and antisemitism. The truth is that in the west it's become much more OK to be gay, and much less OK to be a Jew. Calling me a Jew hater, again, is so stupid that it's laughable.

BTW, I'm not really buying Cusack's excuse.

And i say, if you criticise, don't be selective as to whom to criticise and who' not, if you speak against jews and Israel oppressing people, than you will do justice to criticise many other countries, entities and nations that have or are now mistreating and oppressing other groups of people, now if you point to only one country or nation then you're baies, indifferent or just stupidly blind...

The ironic thing is that by protesting this they have indirectly proven the point Cusack was trying to make lol.  Some things are better left untouched.

Most Jews I know are extremely liberal. Highly unlikely that they would be Jew haters. Most of that is a right-wing trait.

So on one hand Trump is being called a right wing fanatic but is probably one of the strongest supporters of Israel and Jews period.  Explain this oh wise one.

Really? I just do not see that. I see the liberals always defending Israeli policy, no matter how inane, racist, or nasty it is. I am Jewish, and tend to be critical of alot of Israeli policy. I am called a Jew hater, and the like, by people who just cannot handle dialogue about Israel. I have literally been "unfriended" by guys I have known for years, after engaging in a conversation, and being sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. They could not even talk about it? I was branded a traitor. It seems there is no room for criticism of their policy, no matter how wrong headed it is. I am anything but a Jew hater, and count alot of family and close friends amongst the Jewish people, and enjoy the culture, as long as it is not real orthodox, or extreme. The extremists in Israel are the real issue. Their ideas are not based on reality. But, then again, that is the case with most extremism.

Too bad about this statement by Cusack. It seems alot of people just do not seem to be aware of the power of social media, and one wrong statement, and you are condemned for life!

I tend to find the most bigotry among Trump supporters. Of course not all. I have alot of good friends who support him, and they are really good people. But, there are alot of intolerant people who support the man. And he seems to encourage division and hatred. No doubt Trump is a racist.

You made some very good points then wandered into silly land lol.

But Hogs, wouldn't Jing know better than you if he dislikes Jews.      You kind of put him in a no win situation

Denouncing Israel's government's toxic policies and track record of crimes against humanity isn't at all anti-Semitic, although they (again, the government) love to promote the idea that it's just anti-Semitism disguised as criticism.

As for that quote, no matter if it comes from Voltaire or from a neo-Nazi, I cannot find any fault with it at face value. There are things and groups that you cannot criticize pretty much all over the world, it's just that what those things and who those groups are differs wildly.

National Socialism is extreme left wing. Not right wing.

Communism is also extreme left wing and many communist countries had phases of persecuting Jews.

Both communists and national socialists got on with Islam. Maybe because they all share a hatred of Jews?

Its not a no win situation. He's just wrong. Of course not being antisemitic doesn't mean loving every Jewish person. That would mean not being free to detest Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller. That's not workable.

Oh please.

The context was Jews.

There was a meme with a Star of David crushing people.

Do you think Jews rule over you?

I find your comment as nauseating as Cusack's tweet.

Also yet again some criticism of Israel is infected by Jew hatred and some isn't. I agree that saying any and all criticism of Israel is antisemitic is wrong.
