Mr Pittipong: changes in Management of Chiang Mai Night Safari is up to discretion of Cabinet

Permanent Secretary of Natural Resources and Environment says the management of the Chiang Mai Night Safari is up to the decision of the Cabinet.

Permanent Secretary of natural Resources and Environment, Pittipong Phungboon Na Ayutthaya (ปีติพงศ์ พึ่งบุญ ณ อยุธยา) reveals that the Cabinet is likely to allow the Chiang Mai Night Safari to be run by a private company which he thinks is not appropriate.

Mr Pitipong says almost all zoos in the world are run by the government as they are non-profit organizations which provide education and recreation for the general public.

Plus, the exchange or procurement of wild animals from foreign countries has to be strictly supervised by the government.

Mr Pittipong also expresses the ministry’s willingness in implementing the Cabinet’s decisions concerning the management of the night safari.
