Last Friday I visited the Sunbelt offices. As I was descending in the elevator after my meeting the door opened and I saw a True office. I decided that I would take advantage of that opportunity and apply for an upgrade to my High Speed Internet connection, the one much touted recently. Spent about 10 minutes on that only to be told that my area wasn't covered. No problem. I have long wanted to get the basic UBC channel so I can watch TV5, so after much discussion about better packages, etc., SIM cards, etc. I filled in a application for the True Knowledge Package for 6,000 Baht the first year, including installation, equipment rental, and monthly fees. Installation would be in a day or two.

Saturday I received a call from an installer. Was I home. Yes. Can I come now. Yes. OK, I am leaving now and will be there soon. He never showed up.

On Monday I received about 7 different calls from different people at UBC/True within an hour or so.

Topics:

1. Was installation completed?

2. Did you fill out an application?

3. Did you want a telephone line?

4. Have you received your SIM card?

5. What's your passport number?

6. Who did you speak with?

7. When can we come out?

The final straw was a call-back telling me that the package was for 8 months, one year. That call was taken by my wife. When she informed me I grabbed the phone and told them I no longer had any interest in dealing with their organization. As I was speaking in Thai I didn't use the word organization, and it really is the wrong word anyway since they were as disorganized as any outfit I have ever seen. It is difficult for me to believe that they would have any business at all if they didn't have a monopoly. God help them if they don't one day. Rant over.
