Coalition parties for the incoming government have identified four missions for their first year in power, Phalang Pracharat Party spokesman Kobsak Pootrakool said on Thursday.

Kobsak said "urgent actions" for the first year of the government were to tackle the economic problems of poorer people, to reduce inequality and improve social welfare, to create a secure future for the people, and to deal with general problems as they arose.

Kobsak is also a member of his party's working group charged with drafting government policy.

Phalang Pracharat leads a fragile coalition that consists of 19 political parties.

During its four-year term, the new coalition government will also undertake policies for the economy, education, society, public health, natural resources, and the environment, in addition to boosting the administration's efficiency, Kobsak said.

Coalition parties this week had begun submitting policy suggestions to Phalang Pracharat for inclusion in the new government's policy statement, he added.

The next step was for representatives of all the coalition parties to take part in drafting the government policy statement, said Kobsak.

The law requires that the policy statement be announced in Parliament within 15 days of the new Cabinet taking an oath before His Majesty the King, a ceremony required before government ministers start working.

Kobsak said that Phalang Pracharat would include its campaign promises in the government policy statement, including extension of social welfare benefits and a pledge to tackle debt problems facing poor people.

Doesn't he know the Prime Minister is in charge of "dealing with general problems as they arose".

Only the other day he made himself responsible for doll dispensing machines, he fixes smog and smoke in Chiang Mai, footpaths everywhere, twerking should the occasion arise and everything in between.

He is the micro manager of all Thailand's "general problems. The important things that really need fixing like Bangkok's traffic problems and the road toll are just left sort themselves out.

Has there ever been a politician here that has not delivered benefits to themselves as they are the poorer people in most need and need to be considerably richer ????

The last five years the economy has been going down the swanny and you had article 44. Now you’re working amongst 19 coalition parties, there’s no 44, and you have a man-child in charge with zero political skills who’s now allowed to be challenged.

Article 44 may be in the closet right now....but we'll probably see it reincarnated (in one form or another) before too long. Can't see Napoleon giving up his magic twanger without throwing a tantrum.

Should take about 7 days I reckon!

Probably six so they can rest on the Sabbath.

Motherhood statements. Broad and meaningless. Rather amateurish and lacking seriousness.

Not to mention a complete lack of depth or vision.

"Fixing general problems as they arose,"  that would be urging the problems not to arise or instructing all agencies to take all necessary measures to prevent problems from arising.

Job done, now for the lottery ticket prices.

This tedious little drone exhibited more personality when he attended the US$9,200/head lavish fundraising party for the PPP . Having his head in the elite's swill trough seems to have brightened his night. I wonder is he related to Alfred E Neuman.

Translation:  Helping those who are not filthy rich.   There are good people in Thailand who are middle class that are tired of watching their opportunities erode away, while the rich get everything.  Under junta mania, the wealthy increased their ownership of Thailand while cha cha took credit for helping the entitled inbreds win their spoils.  Now they want to help so they can retain power.   Can only hope they get verbally torn to bits everyday, bringing cha cha to tears in the near future.

The dream held by many of seeing Cha Cha verbally torn to shreds in parliament is just not going to be realised: firstly, because he will rarely expose himself to parliamentary debate, and secondly - more pertinently, perhaps - the Thais will still grovel and kowtow to him, by and large. They are simply not trained in standing up manfully and speaking truth to Power. That is unknown here (by and large). It is precluded by Thai greng-jai and face-maintenance culture.

So, yes, there will be some politely turned phrases of criticism - but not the knock-out stunning blows of truth that many of us might wish for and long for.

And there is a third reason: if the parliamentary arena does get too hot (verbally) for him, the rules will be changed to prohibit any 'hate speech' - or new interpretations of parliamentary 'rules' will be magically invented to protect him and his kind.

We've seen it all a million times before with this lot. They are beyond hard-hitting and effectual criticism. They hold the POWER, after all!

He does have problem explaining serious subjects and tend to generalize. He took great pain to explain sufficient economy at the Australian National University. While eloquent, it was rather general and even scriptural. For a man so highly educated, he is a disappointment and clearly lack the skill to be spokesman. Seem he was put in that position because other positions are filled.

and to deal with general problems

and to deal with the General's problems..., that will take decades of therapy, but I agree it's an urgent mission.
