New UK PM must put Brexit plan to second referendum - Labour's Corbyn

Yes, because we can only have one vote ever. Not allowed to change their mind, despite the lies and cock-up since the last "advisory referendum".

They said ‘once in a lifetime’ and that’s about the only promise they will keep.

Absolutely incorrect. The people voted in the referendum. The majority have spoken. The fault lays with The politicians who have failed to represent those who voted for them. A 2nd refe

Didn’t think you’d let it go. You always want the last word, no matter how nonsensical it is.

LAB can commit to anything they like. They’ll never get into govt again, so will never be able to bring a second referendum. Jezza knows this, so can spout the party line while keeping his eurosceptic beliefs.

He is indeed a eurosceptic.

Yet despite his beliefs he is committing his party to supporting the people’s right to a vote on any final deal.

Kudos.

He doesn’t have to be to bring about a vote on a final deal.

He just needs to be willing to work with others in parliament with the same goal.

This development in labour policy now makes that possible.

Well as a non Brit, you are probably unaware that many traditional Labour supporters are unhappy with Corbyns U-turn. And this includes many serving M.p’s as well as many M.p’s who are now retired. An example Austin Mitchell who was the Labour M.p for Grimsby. He is the the chair of the Labour Euro safeguard campaign. He has publicly stated that this U-turn shows that the Labour Party loves the E.U more than working class voters. And it’s a complete betrayal of its traditional supporters.

Lived in U.K. for first 30 years of my life and most of my extended family still do.

Raised around labour politics, radical thought and union activity.

I know more than enough.

Not that any of that matters, as nationality matters not when commenting on an open forum...

Poor Mr Mitchell, would that he had retained his sanity. It has been shown time and again on this forum that only a limited proportion of working class voters voted leave. For Mr Mitchell to say "more than working class voters" clearly implying all of them, is beyond idiotic, imbecilic would be more appropriate. Talk of traditional supporters is a bit silly also, since at least half of the English working class vote Tory, and have done for some time.

New record low for the pound - missus says a lot of her friends / acquaintances are just sending one family member home now on the annual jaunt home as they can no longer afford to be pi yai for the whole family on the visit home. Probably be 30 when we make our three month visit in November with fuel surcharges as pound reaches parity with dollar.

And yet you cheer on a 'hard brexit' oblivious to the economic chaos and in particular the economic effects that are visited on many TVF members. And I don't need any sympathy thank you. It's the poorest on here who seem to be the most vocal cheerleaders at what point will the penny drop ?

Discussing the Thai baht and the reasons why it so strong at the moment is not this topic. Why don't you join one of those topics and maybe you'll understand the reasons a little more instead of boring us all on this topic.

Like Johnson, who regularly praised the Single Market and called himself a “fan of the EU”? Or Farage, who regularly praised the Norway model?

Actually nothing at all like it. Johnson has continually been a Euro skeptic. You obviously have not done your research. Farage praised the Norway model, so. Hardly in the same comparison as Corbyn, so your comparison is like oil and water. It does seem that I have touched a nerve though. A Corbyn fan are we. Says it all.

If it makes you feel better you may believe that.

There won't be a second referendum - Corbyn's reaction

He’s tried already and hasn’t got the backing to bring about either a no confidence or second referendum.

You forgot to mention, that the Baht is also very strong against the U.S $,Aussie $ and the Euro amongst many other currencies.

No it's not. It's been a lot lower than that.

There will be a deal that much is obvious now with the Tory revolt against Boris now and  we won't be crashing out on October 31st - Malagateddy - get your 2k ready - and this will very much be the deal that ERG and Boris said was worse than no deal aka a vassal state of the EU. Responsibilities but no power. But at least the pound will be saved you lucky b&&ers so you can keep on with your moaning tropes and maybe still be able to afford a beer you lucky people. Ball back in Remain court now - hedging strategies can be put on hold for the time being.

Three cheers for Philip Hammond and his brave rebel Tory army (plus Treasury mandarins and Ollie of course with their cunning plans).

senile silly old fool.. UK leaves by default on oct31 2019 .there is no way to stop it now ..then the UK stops paying the EU any money esp 39 billion

boris just has to cruise till leaving day and they can do what they like but makes no difference as the default leaving day is in law ..we will crash out on oct 31 for sure and we save 39 billion

err no we won't the will of Parliament as shown by the 41 majority vote and the willingness of the EU to extend.

Here's a good analogy nicked off Facebook....

You bought a car.
It works.
Your wife decides she doesn't like the color anymore and tells you to get a new car.
To keep the peace in the house you go back to the dealer and tell him you want to buy a new car.
He says that it's not really necessary and a waste of money, but says OK, and shows you a couple of cars.
You go back and and forth, because your wife can't make up her mind which car she wants.
You finally come to an uneasy compromise and decide on one.
You spend much time and effort to negotiate the price, and come to a deal.
That is a deal.
You go back home, and your wife says that she isn't happy, wants to keep the old car and wants a new one thrown in for free.
The dealer says no. You and your wife have a barney, and your wife blames the dealer.
Meanwhile your old car is stolen by a blonde named Boris, and his mates Nigel and Jacob, who sell it cheaply to another blonde called Donald.
You and your wife still argue.
That is Brexit.

Of course it can be stopped. Article 50 can be revoked or the Leave date can be extended again.

but the PM will need to ask for an extension and he wont be doing that so we crash out at the last minute

but such a thing woud take too long as there is not enough time in parliament to revoke it before the leaving day so we crash out

Which it now will be - the first of Boris's promises to be broken. General Election - Tory and Brexit party kill each other - Lib/Lab.SNP coalition gives us a (gerrymandered) second vote. Hop skip and a jump and we remain all the way back to 50 baht......and then NO MORE REFERENDA EVER
