Thai Music we love

Yodrak who still holds the record for the most number of songs recorded by a Thai singer (I think) well over 4k songs. The usual 'quality' VCD from Nopporn, who he was not with for long. Used to be a Policeman before becoming a professional singer, very popular song. Sadly died in 2008, went to his funeral at Wat rai king. Quite a bit of scandal at the time when fellow singer Sayan Sanyar accused him of lying about his cancer, then singer Seri Rungsawan of corruption with Yodraks benefit money. Just a few years later Sayan died of pretty much the same illness as his old 'friend' Yodrak.

Cham cham ram above is the Mrs favourite seen him loads of times, he's married to a lovely Swedish woman, his daughter used to get on stage and sing it when she was young. Anyway Siriporn Ampaipong when her life was simpler and her voice was better. Her big hit bo rak si damn. Somebody has put the soundtrack over the concert recording as that is weak. Gives an idea of how good her concert tour was in the 90's, and that was one of the best. Saw her 5 times in a week once in the early 2000's never boring.

Yeah, my favourite Thai female singer.

Has been for a long time.

Greatest voice too.

Seen her a few times from smaller venues to the full on ensemble up here.

For thaiguzzi....

Good God, that woman can dance/gyrate/twerk, whatever you want to call it.

Absolutely fantastic.

Best concert and band i have seen here, twice, the same guy and his band is Marijuana (Maleehuana).

Stage presence like nobody else i've seen, goosebumps, blows Karabao into the weeds and yeah i saw them both at the same venue earlier this year. Within a month of each other, Maleehuana played for half what Karabao charged and the concensus all round was Karabou were the worse band. Sort of went thru the motions...

Of all the Peua Cheewit (songs for life) bands, he's the Man.

Mike Piromporn's early hit lakorn cheewit, classic theme of country girl going to the big city etc. Siriporn recorded it as well. He has a restaurant on lad Phrao soi 71 where he sometimes sings, or used to. Very genuine guy, from Udon.

Going with something a little different.  Ever since I saw them open for Radiohead at MBK Hall in 1994, I've been a big fan of Moderndog, and have all their albums.  Some great songs, from head banging:

To quieter, more tuneful beauties:

And, if it's dancing girls you want, they have that too:

Sunnyboy2018, lamyai is really a luktung singer not morlam, lam cing (not sing) is a fast paced style of morlam started in the 1980's to make it more popular with the young. Sexy dancing and wiggling about does not make it a morlam performance. However the definitions of what style of music is which has become blurred with aspects being borrowed and copied, so some lam cing performances can consist of little more than fast paced luktung songs, non stop. Also now there is a new style people cite called luktung indie which seems to have replaced what was marketed as luktung/phue chee wit. Performers all seem to dress down as in phua chee wit (songs for life). If you go back to the early 50's morlam mu copied those sparkly amazing costumes from likay performers, now it's seen as traditional morlam costume. Again, it's all about presenting something 'new' in an effort to be popular

Not strictly Thai music but popular recently, even the dear leader was photographed with some of BNK48. It's Japanese music from AKB48 that being from Akihabara in Tokyo. The 48 does not mean there are 48 members, in Japan there are far more than that. I think they still have 5 'teams' in the same group. As they get older they graduate and leave and get replaced by new singers, it's all a bit complicated with voting and changing teams involved. Many Asian countries and other places in Japan have their own sister group or franchise of Akb, it's a bit like music 7/11! J pop or idol pop performed by Thais. Fortune cookie the most successful number.
