Marine expert proposes joint committee to tackle dugong issue

The former head of Trang's Hat Chao Mai National Park, Manoj Wongsureerat, on Wednesday proposed that a joint committee of representatives from the three southern provinces of Trang, Krabi and Satun and related agencies be set up to study the existing sea grass fields and together tackle the issue of dugongs being swept ashore and dying.

Activist Tom Dundee freed after over five years in prison for lèse majesté

Former red-shirt activist Tanat Thanawatcharanont, better known as Tom Dundee, was released from Bangkok special prison this morning (Wednesday) by Royal pardon after having served five years and eight days behind bars on a conviction for committing lèse majesté.

BOT parks rate cut in favour of capital inflow controls

The Bank of Thailand (BOT) will keep its policy interest rate at 1.75 per cent for the rest of his year and focus on implementing measures such as tightening controls on short-term capital inflows to ease the appreciation of the baht.

200,000 meth pills found in pickup that sped from checkpoint

A drug suspect ran a checkpoint in a pickup that was later found to contain 200,000 meth-amphetamine pills after the driver abandoned the vehicle in a wooded area following a chase. The suspect escaped into the forest in Chiang Rai's Chiang Saen district.

Strange gait gives away drug couriers

Two men were caught on Wednesday morning carrying 11,000 methamphetamine pills and 400 grams of crystal meth or “ice” hidden in their canvas sneakers as they tried to walk across the Tachilek-Mae Sai border into Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district.
