if a country does not have your medication

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience with staying longtime in a country that does not have the meds you need ?

What do you do then ?

Do you buy directly from the manufacturer ?

Any other options (besides making international trips just to stock up on pills) ?

Get alternative or something from the same group. Nothing else can be done

You could always mail them but if they're controlled or banned then you will have a problem with customs.

In fact you may have issues with customs anyway but I've heard about plenty of people mailing their meds over from the UK.

That's a good question.

Of course often brand names are different so it's just a matter of doing your own research / working with a doctor or pharmacist to  figure out the direct replacement.

Then in some cases you can find a close enough replacement. Similar advice as above.

Researching personal meds needs is something that should be high on the list for people doing initial research on whether to move to a particular country. Including costs of course.

In some cases if they don't have a critical med you might not want to move to that country in the first place.

Look for your meds on line...buyer beware...some folks are producing bogus meds to sell as the real deal...I personally would not buy from India.

Past experience...pharma company with address in USA...was a front for placebo bogus meds shipped from India...who knows what the real ingredients are.

Another corrupt trick...tell you your CC transaction did not go through...please resubmit...surprise! You get billed for two orders and end up with a sheet load of meds...????

Which medication are you looking for and which country are you staying long term in that does not have that, or equivalent ?

I take Fluvoxamine (sold in Thailand as "Faverin") ...I can obtain it in Thailand....the problem is that I likely have no long-term continuous future in Thailand.
