Paris on heatwave alert as France braces for scorching weather

PARIS (Reuters) - Paris authorities on Monday activated a heatwave alert plan for the capital as France prepared for another week of scorching temperatures just a month after a similar heatwave in June.

The “level three” alert includes measures to ensure that elderly and vulnerable people are checked up on regularly, and that rooms are set aside for shelter.

Meteo France forecast temperatures in Paris reaching as high as 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 Fahrenheit) on Tuesday. Besides Paris, more than 20 other local regions, mainly in the south of the country, have also been placed on heatwave alert.

Agriculture Minister Didier Guillaume said earlier on Monday that France would ask the European Commission to bring forward a payment of 1 billion euros ($1.12 billion) of subsidies to help farmers cope with the heatwave.

In late June, France registered a record temperature of around 46 degrees Celsius (114.8 Fahrenheit) in the country’s south.

was there in July 1994, same temperatures but no trace of any "climate change" propaganda then...

BTW: "Climate" IS "Change" by definition.

Yes, but before it was " exceptionnal ", now it will be every year and "normal "

there is a change, yes, the difference with before is that it will be very frequent , much more than before, just like climate changes were every let's say ten years, now every one or two years

46 Celsius degrees in France, never seen before, now every month very hot weather, before once a year, only in the south, now everywhere in the country

Now if only climate change could make it a bit warmer in the winter, I'd move there.

It is making it warmer in the winter, just check the weather stats .....

When you were at school, did the teacher not explain to you what averages were? For example, although there might be one person in the village who was over 2 meters tall, that did not mean that everyone was that tall. But you could add up all the heights of all the people over 18 years old and divide it by the number of people and get an average height for that time.

Every year you could do the same thing to see if the average height was changing over time.

It is the same with climate. Just as height involves change, so does climate temperature. What you are not really interested in for these purposes are the spikes in temperature (both highs and lows) but the average global temperature over time.

If global temperate on average is warming, we need to worry because that will lead to instable in the weather patterns among other things. Highly destructive storms with greater frequency and intensity will lead to greater damage and mortality. Changes in average climate temperature will lead to changes in flora and fauna and ground conditions that will affect our food supply.

Now perhaps you are not concerned about the melting polar caps, rising ocean levels, threats to food supply and all the rest and perhaps you have your reasons - perhaps you don't care about humanity, perhaps you dont have children or you have other reasons. But the rest of us are.
