Popular Post webfact Posted July 24, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2019 Stick to the roads: BMA to enforce new fine for riding on sidewalks By The Nation The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has instructed its officials to enforce higher fines for motorcyclists who ride and park on sidewalks starting next month.BMA deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul held a meeting with the chief of the BMA’s Regulation Enforcement Department and chiefs of the regulation enforcement divisions in all districts on Tuesday to instruct them to strictly enforce the new fine with effect from August 1. Sakoltee said although the BMA has been fining motorcyclists B1,000 for riding and park on sidewalks, they continued to violate the regulations so the BMA decided to double the fine to Bt2,000 from August 1. Sakoltee said he has assigned the enforcement department to develop an app to allow city enforcers to know whether certain motorcyclists have repeatedly broken the rules.. According to Sakoltee, 20,659 motorcyclists were arrested for riding on sidewalks between July 9 2018 and July 21 2019. The officials reprimanded 4,197 of them and took legal action against the rest. The city administration collected Bt11.179 million during the same period. That will just result in an increase in the removal of number plates, to try and avoid being caught. In Udon alone I've notice a marked increase in the number of white licence plate cars with the rear black numbers 'whited out', presumably to avoid being read by cameras. Estrada Posted July 24, 2019 Share Posted July 24, 2019 Old News. The BMA introduced a Fine of B5000 for motocycles riding on the pavement 2 years ago with large signs along the route. The police have not been enforcing that fine and now they are only charging B2,000. Do they think that they will stop riding on the pavement if the reduce the fine from B5,000 to B2,000. A policemen watches the motorcyclists riding down Srinakarin road opposite Talad Rot Fai, but never bother to catch them despite the danger to pedestrians.
