Video: Thai granny in a trance goes walkabout with a cobra - it's her 55th catch!

A viral video showed a grandmother from a southern Thailand village walking about the neighborhood with a two meter cobra in her hands.

Locals were trying to stop her amid fears that she might have a road accident - they were not worried about her and the snake! She was in a trance.

She later doubled back to the village of Wisai Neua in Chumpon and released the snake hear her house.

Neighbors beat it to death after it reared up.

Sanook went to meet the granny called Praneet Kaewbangtoo, 75. She is known to all the locals as Mor Neet (Dr Neet) as she is certified by the public health ministry as a practitioner of country medicine.

She lives alone after her husband and two children moved away.

She said that during her walk she was in a trance and had no feeling. She was shown the video after and was still very nonchalant about it all.

She had grabbed the cobra with her bare hands out of instinct. It was nothing new for her - it was the 55th snake she had caught over the years including 20 cobras.

She said she had been bitten 50 times by snakes but never had an adverse reaction.

Worawut, 35, a neighbor said it was nothing unusual to see Mor Neet catching snakes. But they were concerned that while she was in a trance she may have a road accident so they tried to stop her wandering off.

One of those "trances" when it's possible to have a conversation and argument with someone else while walking along the road.

Much more likely that it was a promotional exercise to remind the gullible locals that the quack was still open for business.

Not surprising, as soalbundy says.

"She is known to all the locals as Mor Neet (Dr Neet) as she is certified....."

Sure is!

She lives alone after her husband and two children moved away.

Perhaps they had too many snakes in their beds?

Ah, the old Thai adage: When in doubt, beat it to death....then make soup.
