Popular Post webfact Posted August 1, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2019 Chakthip vows to completely rid Bangkok of street racing By THE NATION National Police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda vowed on Thursday to make motorcycle racing “extinct” in Thailand, as he issued several solutions and demanded results within five months. The police are also implementing several road-safety measures, including painting 3D zebra crossings in high-risk areas as well as on main roads near schools. The first 3D zebra crossing is being painted near the state-owned Bodindecha high-school in Bangkok and will be ready for use by August 6. As for street racing, the police chief said the entire mechanism will be monitored, starting from shops that sell race-related equipment and provide modification services for motorcycles. He has also threatened to take legal action against administrators of social-media pages that encourage racing or arrange racing events as well as parents or guardians who fail to keep their children in check. The police general also vowed to penalise chiefs of Bangkok police stations who are found to have not heeded his orders. Local metropolitan police will be encouraged to take pre-emptive action by preventing races from taking place through intelligence and online surveillance, and also seizing motorcycles or vehicles owned by the racers or spectators. Chakthip warned that these measures will be strictly implemented over the next five months to force racers or organisers of races to stop. Meanwhile, deputy police chief Pol Lt-General Damrongsak Kittipraphas said the 3-D zebra crossings are expected to help reduce accidents and road casualties, and will be painted near all schools in Bangkok. Popular Post leeneeds Posted August 1, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2019 Young adults at the age of adrenalin rush just part of growing up, most I think just looking for an outlet, why do not the police organise a street meet themselves have in place the rules , medical stand by safety checks and have a couple of police bikes to race, being part of the community in policing in a pro active way would if done correctly at the right time and with the blessing of locals would remove the illegal hooning, that exists now on the streets, the odd few that would still want to go outside this legal meet, then bring the full weight of the law down on them, community policing has worked else where overseas, sometimes you have to look outside the box. 1 1 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Nobody enforces anything here after the first week of a crackdown, then it fades from view until next year. Keeps me busy I suppose, complaining about it. And just this morning I saw people riding their motorcycles on the pavement going past a police traffic booth. Laws, like vows, mean nothing if you don't actively do anything about them. The 3rd dimension is vertical so traffic will be forced to give way or slam into a 'painted' vertical barrier which, presumably, will erect as soon as a pedestrian steps onto the crossing.
