Govt assures situation under control after Bangkok blasts

Featured Replies

Everything’s under control?  How about your overpriced Baht? BoT promised to keep an eye on it.  Well, someone fell asleep at the wheel.  Now tourism, exports, the SET and expats all at high risk.

"Won't affect the tourism sector"......I think we should leave that up to the tourists.

Anytime this administration assures you that things are under control, it is appropriate to be worried. Very worried. If there is anything that can be said about this government, it is that they do no

Well it has happened in the past, modus operandi unfortunately of the the Thai Generals . Never did find out if any thing happened to the 4 off duty Navy seals that were detained accidentally when dressed in civilian clothes shooting into the crowds on Sukhumvit in 2010, by way of example.

Probably nothing. Similar to nothing that happened to the 4 Red Shirts detained by police with grenades and weapons - let go as it was determined they were just for personal protection. Or the off duty policeman caught shooting at anti Shin protesters from the pillion of a motor bike. Or the lady caught driving a car from which gunmen were firing at anti Shin protesters.

Plenty of examples from both sides.

This is a whole lot of fuss about nothing. Fireworks could do more damage than these Thai-style 'bombs'. One broke a flowerpot and cracked a glass wall. Wow! Real terrorists, as these amateurs pretend to be, blow up buses and trains and wreck office buildings and hotels. As has happened in the South, where Muslim insurgents have killed more innocent people than were killed on 9/11. But Thailand doesn't count on the world stage so as far as the world is concerned the deaths in the South don't count either.

There was one attempt at a 'real' terror attack some 20 years ago or more, and it ended up in a typical Thai fashion. Fortunately. A lorry loaded with explosives was en route to the Israeli Embassy, but the driver crashed the lorry and fled the scene. The authorities, who had had no clue that the attack was being planned, found the explosives when they set about removing the abandoned lorry from the road.

Hundreds of cooking gas bottles on the streets of Bangkok and towns pose a much greater threat to life when they explode.

They'll take out a number of people before hurtling through a brick wall.

Let off a few ping pong crackers during a state visit and the media go beserk.

Exactly the reaction that was hoped for!

Expect more ''Shore Patrols'' along Walking Street then

She added that that though the news was reported in other countries, none of them had issued advisories against their citizens travelling to Thailand

I received an email from the US Embassy warning about bombs and to stay alert or stay away. So what is this lady talking about?

I actually believe it!  since it is a inside job to scare everyone!  The PM puppet general was losing control so this was stage to scare the population that he is the right man to be in charge? I'm sure those hurt will get a good pay out for their pain and suffering if they are Thai and of course if you are a foreigner good luck since we know of the duel pricing.????

To be honest another pile of croc by the government

and another nail in the coffin for the Thai tourists industry

talk about shoot yourselves in the foot

better shoot in the head

when will they ever learn

answer never

such a shame for the thai people who always have to suffer in the hands of corruption

a once fantastic country with so much to offer

will not impact the country's...  tourism sector

Sure it won't. It will just contribute to accelerating its downward slide.

So they must have found the people responsible and their sponsors.  If this is not the case then why so optimistic?

Plenty of security at the BTS stations and malls AFTER the bombings. In a few days, the sleepy guards will be back at work, everything as usual.

The cauldron bubbles, possibly the beginning of a new coup.

Not initiated by the military, but by the people that are being hurt by this regime.

We can only watch this space and remember to be careful out there.

But it shows where their focus is; $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That has never changed & highly unlikely to ever do so.

"Govt assures situation under control after Bangkok blasts"

Therefore, Bangkok was not under control prior to these blasts? ????

One can only guess that is why it happened then.

Have they arrested anyone? No.

Do they know who's responsible? No.

Totally under control.

Yep, I know it all takes time... that's the whole point of having your finger on the pulse. Or not.

Gas bottles do not just explode unless subject to EXTREME HEAT. Having done an LPG bottle course at the UK's fireman's training centre, the first thing the instructor did was to light a cigarette lighter, and told us this is a lpg bottle on fire it does not explode. We then were taken outside, he lit a bottle you simply walk up behind the flame and turn it off.947921876_images(8).jpg.6070d48dab314da79bddd4d316e2886d.jpg

"...lady talking about?"

She probably has no idea at all- was just given a note to read out? ????

All these 'assurances' about safety reminds me of an old joke;

On board a passenger aircraft having now reached cruising altitude, a metallic voice comes on through the passenger cabin intercom system "This is your Captain speaking, our new aircraft is now fully automated, for your safety and nothing can go wrong, can go wrong, can go wrong......"  ????
