Deputy prime minister and Public Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government were dealing with the drought crisis that has meant water shortages at public hospitals.

He said that he was in daily contact with Surin Hospital in Thailand's north east where the crisis is being severely felt.

Anutin said that measures to economize on water and find alternative sources in emergencies are being made throughout the country.

Bangkokbiznews said that among the measures were getting people to use alcohol gels rather than water to clean their hands and the closure of toilets that were not absolutely necessary.

Surin Hospital has declared an emergency and set up a crisis committee to look into ways to alleviate shortages.

That's a bit like... "were in the sh*t" with no water...

close the toilets "now were deeper in the sh*t"!!!!

One hopes that they are no rationing water for handwashing between patients or during preoperative scrubs.
