Forget to add what I do to fight my boredom since I don't drink. I read a lot, do small programming projet for fun, sport (walking, running, swimming and probably cycling soon), cooking and I'm an extremist gardener since it was my job when younger. I never meet any expats since there is none in my area and even in Bangkok I did not. I don't enjoy bar and never did.

I drink what I drink because I like the taste of if. Sometimes a bottle of ice cold water tastes really good and refreshing. And sometimes a beer or wine or whisky. I drink it for the taste, not the alcohol.

If you need alcohol to make your life good or better then maybe you should think if the problem will get better with drinking alcohol. If you have only half a year to live and you want to take the pain away and get drunk every day then that drinking makes sense in a way. But if you will probably live for 20 years more or more then drowning your sorrow in alcohol is not exactly a long term solution.

I use alcohol as both a pain and boredom reliever, and have done so the last 10+ years

I'm addicted to being sedated, and not sure how to fix the problem

I never drink socially, unless I have to for work reasons (in order to fix a problem)

Alcohol on its own does not have a taste. It is the hops, grapes, peat, which give drinks their wonderful taste.

Yes. I wonder what gives Lao Khao its wonderful taste ?

Interesting to see so many teetotal TV members.

I was teetotal till I was 30 (now 64) and went on my first real holiday abroad to Italy where wine was cheaper than coca cola. I was a very popular designated driver for 13 years as all my mates got wasted.

I have a limited menu, only liking beer, white wine, and gin & tonic (pretty much prefer g&t now). Changing from 5 years in Siem Reap (hundreds of bars, hundreds of expats, 24 hour bars, out every night - I never had a hangover), to 3 years in Thai village life (no bars, no other expats, no movement after dark, home every night) it's fair to say Thailand has been good to me health-wise. I find now it's easy to not over-indulge in both alcohol and unhealthy food.

If I do feel like a drink the local shop has only Leo and Chang and all the usual Thai rums etc which I will never touch!  This sounds boring, and sometimes it is, but I have adapted and rarely feel the need to drink while in the village. GF never touches alcohol when at home.

However ..............

We both like to socialise so it's a must to have at least 4 breaks a year to places like Kanchanaburi city (only as it's the closest), Hua Hin and Pattaya etc. Then it's like being back in Siem Reap, although you get thrown out way too early! It's a good balance for me and combined with other health initiatives I feel my organs are all in much better shape than 3 years ago.

In a regular at home month i'd say 8 to 10 drinks a month, mostly Chang as I mentioned there is no other choice. On our trips away, i would not like to count ????

Coke Light probably has more unhealthy chemicals in it than almost any alcoholic drink. Aspartame!

maybe, but it doesn't kill you and doesn't negatively impact the liver.  It's mainly water and mild flavouring. It is certainly a much better alternative to alcoholic drinks.

One box of 24 bottles of beer lasts around 6 weeks. I drink more milk than beer at home. Sometimes a Gin Tonic. When I go out for dinner I drink one large bottle. My rule: no alcohol before 6 pm.

during my last visit to Germany i scolded my brother for his obvious excessive alcohol consumption. his rebuttal was "i've limited my alcohol intake strictly to days with names ending "-day". :crying:

Exactly my philosophy, as soon as the King's song comes on, off we go!

Not at all anymore; when I was in my country France, I liked to drink red wine with cheese, but here cheese is not the same, and I don't enjoy beer anymore;  I don't miss and I don't need alcohol anymore

the cheese is the same, only the price is different.

I'm like the OP, I usually have a drink when sitting at my computer, or when lying outside in the hammock, and when eating. I usually go for Smirnoff 100 cans at 7% or Tapper beer at 6.5%, 3+ a day.

I do not drink and never have. Most of the friends I have had since my early days in Thailand have either died or more recently gone back to their country, so I cannot go to visit them any more. I have my motorbike road trips, computer, most days I cycle about 15 Ks, take an occasional trip to Bangkok and Pattaya, go with Mrs Possum to the city sometimes. that's about it.

I just went on the waggon for two week and love taking the dog for its walk in the morning without a fuzzy head now. However, I HAD to have a couple of beers last night as I have subscribed to True ID sport channel, and you cannot NOT have a beer or two when Man City are playing. Maybe a couple more tonight for Chelsea!

Is that True ID only for tv or computer? Will I get Celtic on it? Anytime I watch football there is too much buffering.

It has nothing to do with the king. I also could say 6:30 pm.

I saw too many farangs sitting in bars at 11 am with their beer bottles in front. I don´t want to end like them. Also it doesn´t taste me so well during the day and makes me tired.

I also don't drink, not one signal drop passes my lips year in year out. Regret I also dislike seeing drunks and even dislike the many TV interludes that show people drinking, why do they promote drinking as such a good thing to do I wonder :bah:

To alleviate the boredom I happen to be a TV Mod that's more than enough to fill the spare time and not get bored

You forgot to mention your music.

I was referring to the fact that the King's song comes on telly at 6pm. Did you think I meant the 8am rendition?    LOL

There is no such thing as what it is per month, no month is the same. I find life boring and silly to bind on special rules etc too, rather grow mentally stronger.
This year I have been drinking very few times but it could be more again at the end of the year.

Download the Thai ID app onto your phone, register, then go to https://tv.trueid.net/live/true4u on your PC, or Smart TV, and put in your telephone number as user name, not the one you put in the app. Oh yes, you've got to pay with a card.

Don't know about Celtic as it is EPL matches they show.

Sorry if this is off topic, please move it to Computers or TV forum, thanks.
