Hat Yai Mid-Autumn Festival 2019

Featured Replies

I noticed in Hat Yai town yesterday that they'd started to assemble the red lantern on the junction of Thumnoonvithi and Nipatuthit 1, so we going to have a Mid-Autumn Festival again this year. The festival falls on the weekend of September 13th, so provided the weather stays fine it should be a busy weekend. We went last year and enjoyed sampling the various food stalls, so will no doubt go again this year.

Interesting...last time I was there I saw they had started incorporating aspects of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival (self-mutilation, trance talking to spirits, etc.) Will check it out tomorrow. PM sent too...

You missed it, was last weekend!

We went on the Saturday evening, it was busier than last year, probably because it coincided with another holiday weekend in Malaysia. So lots of Malaysian families strolling around with hordes of kids getting under your feet. Mainly food stalls, lots of variety.

Oh, I assumed it was the same time frame the Phuket one, which goes over 10 days if I remember correctly...

No the Moon Cake Festival ran from 12-14th. But there is something else on this week, I noticed going to Central Festival on Tuesday that many streets are decked out with yellow banners with red Chinese script, when I asked I was told it was to do with one of the Chinese temples.
