New Charging Structure In Government Hospital

Featured Replies

I understand from next month Thai Govermental hospitals are introducing a new charging structure

There are 4 categories, such as Thai, Burma/Vietnem and foreigners

My questions is does anyone know the potential impact / cost increase from todays prices

E.g 10% more etc

So, it may be cheaper going to a private hospital

The first post of this thread there is a link to download the pricing at the bottom of the post.

I saw the prices. Unless you are from the US it is often better to go back home.

Why shouldn't Americans go back home for medical treatment if costs here are too high?

Your comment, dimitriv, is very inaccurate.

Because in the US medical costs are higher. But if I compare Thai prices (I looked mainly at dental work) with prices in Europe it is better to go home for me.

Why is that inaccurate ?

Well, sure, generally prices in USA are higher for med services compared to Thailand or India, etc.

In my case, along with many others Americans, we old folks have govt sponsored med insurance coverage, Medicare. But no dental insurance.

If an american too young for Medicare (under 65) and without USA private med insurance gets seriously ill in Thailand he/she will be better off getting treatment here, if the money is available.

If i get sick bad, i'm on the plane and off to an American hospital where i can flash my card for immediate, and cheap, treatment.

So depending on a few individual factors, including costs, americans may or may not be better served in Thailand.
