I want to connect my laptop and also an Android box to my computer via the HDMI connection but the TV only has one HDMI slot. Will I need an HDMI splitter and can anyone recommend a suitable one.

You need an HDMI switch, not a splitter.  They may look similar but have different functions.  A splitter sends the signal from a single source to 2 (or more) screens.  A switch changes the inputs to a single screen.
