65-Year-Old Farmer Discovers Baby’s Body Buried with Toy Rabbit in Rice Field

A tragic discovery was made in a rice field in Ban Lak Pai, Wang Hin Subdistrict, Si Sa Ket Province, when a 65-year-old man found the body of an infant buried alongside a toy rabbit. Police from Wang Hin Police Station, forensic officers from Si Sa Ket Provincial Police, and a medical examiner from Wang Hin District Hospital were called to the scene to investigate. The body of a baby girl, estimated to be less than one month old, was found buried in a mound of soil in the middle of a rice field. Wrapped in a white towel and accompanied by a white stuffed rabbit, the baby’s body appeared intact. The discovery was made by Mr. Prasert Chaleekul, aged 64, who had been tending to his cows nearby. While searching the field for rat tracks to prepare traps, he noticed disturbed soil covered by a piece of wood. Using a stick to investigate, Mr. Prasert first uncovered the towel and toy rabbit before eventually discovering the baby’s foot. Shocked by the find, he immediately alerted the village headman and contacted the authorities. Mr. Prasert recounted that such an incident had never occurred in the area before. He mentioned seeing two teenagers, wearing face coverings, riding a motorcycle near the location on the afternoon of 6 January. They had drawn no attention at the time, as he assumed they were hunting for field rats. However, given the circumstances, he believes they may have been involved in burying the baby. The medical examiner estimates the baby had died two to three days prior. Whether the baby was buried after death or while still alive remains uncertain, pending a detailed autopsy. Authorities are currently gathering evidence from the scene and investigating the teenagers’ possible involvement. Efforts are underway to track down those responsible for burying the infant. -- 2025-01-10 -

HMRC have a very good webchat service which is what I use to contact HMRC. I have successfully used it a couple of times to get my tax code corrected on the spot. Use it during UK business hours. Initially you will get a "digital" assistant, then you ask to speak to a human. You will go into a queue and you will eventually chat with a "real" person.
