SRT board members in mass resignation

All board members of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), including chairman Kulit Sombatsiri, tendered their resignations to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob today, effective October 1 (tomorrow).

Kulit denied reports that the mass resignation was due to the political pressure.

There had been speculation for some time that they were under pressure to resign, saying the transport minister wanted to replace the entire board with new members.

Kulit said the board was appointed by the previous government and it was appropriate to step down when the new government took over.

The SRT managed airport link isn't great. Consistently late. Doesn't sound like things will be getting better.

Late?

I use it daily and it's never late.  Not frequent enough perhaps, not enough capacity  - definitely - but always within the headway window it is supposed to be.

Sadly, as stated above, the vacancies will probably be filled by incompetent, yet well-connected buffoons. As long as they lift the ludicrous ban on booze it may not be too bad and make the train a good, fun travel option once again, but for now I'll stick to the cheap flights thanks.

Of the incorruptible Chidchob clan.

Now, if a totally non-military parliament was elected, do you really think that the Generals in positions of power now would leave with such enthusiasm ?

They would have to dragged kicking and screaming from their trough.

Never late? Come one, that just is not the case.

At peak times the trains are supposed to run every 8.5 mins.  Sometimes they do, but often they don't.

They are frequently late and come at irregular intervals.

I will reserve my comments and see what unfolds.

You'll never see them unfolding the thousand baht notes!

As it happens I  am free at the moment......so if they are looking for someone who can run a railroad...

I was the president and CEO of the Central Western & Gulf RR until I  retired.  But I wasn't able to bring my layout to LOS when I came.  Pity!

Not trying to be difficult but that's just not my experience at all, and I am a daily rider.  They are irregular at rush hour but that's simply because they are just running them as quickly as they can.  But they are irregular in that there is often less then 8.5 minutes between trains, I have never encountered them being later than the schedule.

Just my experience from daily use.  There are lots of other things to criticise about the ARL that's for sure.  Like the fact that the trains have to slow to a literal walking pace around RCA as they pass the points (turnouts) - obviously down to the poor quality of materials used / poor maintenance.

You are incredibly lucky lucky then.

I ride it frequently and the gap between trains is often very irregular.  Yes, sometimes less than 8.5 mins but more likely to be more than that.  Occasionally a train disappears from the schedule altogether and you have to deal with 2 trains worth of people.

However, the trains are a LOT more reliable now than they used to be so progress is being made.
