A political activist has called on Kasetsart University to take disciplinary action against a lecturer, for proposing the amendment of Section 1 of the Constitution, in order to set an example for the other academics and students.

Captain Songklod Chuenchuphol, alias Captain Poo Kem, a core member of a nationalist political group, Thai Wisdom Guard, said today that he has sent written to the rector of Kasetsart University demanding a panel to be set up to consider disciplinary action against Dr. Chalita Bundhuwong, deputy head of the Sociology and Humanities Department of the Faculty of Social Science, for allegedly inciting separatism in violation of Section 1 of the Constitution.

At a recent political panel discussion, held by the opposition in the southernmost province of Pattani on September 28th, Dr. Chalita reportedly said that the problems in the deep south could be resolved through democratization, adding that the existing Constitution, specifically Section 1, is a stumbling block in attempts to deal with the problem.

Just a extreme right nutter from previous Thai Patriot who harassed democratic minded people. He even trained militants for his hit jobs and trailed Thanathorn for purpose of harassment.

I wonder who "Written" is... must be some kind of emissary....   maybe he was followed by "Notice" so then the Captain would have sent "Written and Notice" together...

Can’t have people making suggestions or proposals for political change. Especially in a university where it might get support among students ! Failed Kingdom of Thailand

Seems to me I recall one group of folks who trashed a legally enacted Constitution not long ago and replaced it with an entirely new one of their own dubious drafting. And they didn't face any criminal charges or prosecution for doing so.... In fact, they got to run the country.

Yeah, that sounds familiar!  Sad that a person can't voice an opinion in Thailand as this Prof did.   Anything but advocating a violent over throw should be allowed to be discussed, but we all know that the people in charge do not want any dissent.  Sorry Thailand.  Your long line of coups and dictators is likely to continue

I wish there were a book or website with all the key players faces and names and nicknames in all these Thai groups. I'd like to know who makes up the Wisdom Guard and the Rubbish Collection Agency. Plus seeing connections to other organizations and government offices and political parties would bring some clarity. Do these right wing groups all have the same members?

“Thai groups” ? Oh people who are trying to make the country something resembling “freedom justice and democracy “

Thai Wisdom Guard

Is that a group guarding against wisdom in general, or a guard to not add anything new to wisdom in particular?

In either case it obviously needs a Captain Poo...

It's not just Chalita being targeted for sedition.

An army representative on Friday said he filed criminal complaints against 12 opposition leaders and academics who spoke in favor of amending the military-backed constitution last month.

  • Pro-military news outlets soon seized her quote to accuse Chalita of advocating for a republic. In its headline on Oct. 1, prominent conservative newspaper Thai Post described Chalita as an academic “who proposed abolishing the Kingdom of Thailand.”

http://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2019/10/04/army-files-sedition-charges-against-opposition-politicians-academic/

This charge was misguided at best and ignorant at worse.

Chalita was referring to an "option" that could be created through a constitutional amendment in Article 1 that could provide a mechanism for a "special administrative area" (aka semi-autonomous region) for the three Muslim southern provinces that were part of the original Islamic Kingdom of Patanni as a solution for peace with the insurgency.

Definition of semi-autonomous https://www.yourdictionary.com/semiautonomous

  1. Partially self-governing.
  2. Having the powers of self-government within a larger organization or structure.

Such a reformation of Thailand's governance would not change Thailand's current form of government nor alter the Head of State. It would not change the Kingdom of Thailand into a Republic.

Semi-autonomy would change the degree of Thailand's local governance over the subject southern provinces however. Note that such an administrative arrangement existed between Crimea and Ukraine (prior to the Russian invasion and annexation). It's a common solution for respecting the culture, customs and traditions of an indigenous people that became absorbed into a different society.

See autonomous regions created by national internal statutes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_autonomous_areas_by_country

Of notable interest are the ten autonomous regions in the UK. UK is still a kingdom!
