Brexit on a knife edge as PM Johnson stakes all on 'Super Saturday' vote

The government has negotiated the withdrawal agreement (again). This agreement is much the same as the last attempt. The latest attempt has not even got as far as a vote. It is this parliament which cannot agree with this proposed agreement, not the government. So we need a new government asap via a GE.

Far easier and fairer to have a people's vote. Let the people decide.

Let all this be a lesson to all future governments of whatever hue.

Never ever have a referendum again to ask the hoi palloi what they want.

You were elected by them now get on with it. Please yourselves not them. Do what you want to do not what they would want you to to do.

Referendums are now a thing of the past. Only elections count.

Nice thing about elections is they happen every 3 to 4 years.

The problem with referendums (the preferred tool of demagogues and despots) is they have no sell-by date so it is often hard to tell when they have gone off.

If you do not like the parliament you have, then vote again.

You guys complain about advisory referendums and extol parliamentary sovereignty... until it comes to crunch time.

Good. Glad you agree that we need a general election.

Disagree of course. Another referendum is a bad choice democratically. The real problem is this useless parliament, which is not making any headway. Time for a GE and then see if any progress can be made after that. Remainers can vote for parties that are likely to champion their cause like the Lib Dems.

The next one is 2022.

Plenty of time to sort Brexit out before then.

Plenty of time .... how much time have we had already? How much do we need?  This is all horse doo. We need a GE now.

Maybe you should read, mark and understand my post before replying.

I assume this is a democrat being as sarcastic as possible?

From the NHS customers.

One of the largest contributions to brexit was GP and hospital waiting times.

Of course the brexiteers would rather blame the foreigners but with over 100 vacancies in the NHS the argument doesn't hold water and brexit made it worse.

When challenged in interview over doctor suicides the health secretary admitted they were over 10K doctors short. The problem is most acute in mental health with training taking around 13 years.

Lack of foresight and lack of funding.

This needs a separate thread, as I certainly blame a large part of the NHS failure on the decision to insert a large number of admin. staff( and extremely well paid managers/top staff) into the NHS.....

Thank you for pointing out the stance of politicians.  It's worked previously - and they're hoping it will work again.

That will give the EU the excuse (for which they are desperately looking) to give another extension.

65% of Labour voters, voted remain.

It's impossible to know the number of Labour voters that voted 'remain'.

But this has nothing to do with my point.

i.e. MPs respecting the vote of their constituents.

Do not thank me, you obviously missed the point in it being the signature of @nauseum, who is quite happy to keep having general elections until he gets the parliament he wants.

The EU does not sIt in Westminster, only gives the extension the UK is asking for - desperately- The EU is more exhausted than desperate.
