Johnson faces perilous Brexit ratification after deal vote blocked

I agree with you
My response was to highlight the only people preventing the bill from potential passing is the government themselves.
There is nothing stopping the government putting a sensible timetable forward for debate except Boris self imposed deadline.
Well maybe. The Govt worried that Parliament will pass amendments it does not agree with and therefore not wanting to support the final substantive motion.

The comment about being "passed" has come back on them.

The Conservative party has been embroiled in a fake news row over social media posts claiming Boris Johnson's Brexit deal had been approved by MPs.

EU set to put Brexit delay on hold after Johnson's ultimatum

PM’s threat to pull deal if Corbyn rejects general election leaves Brussels in state of flux

The EU’s plan to offer the UK an extension until 31 January on Friday is expected to be put on hold after Boris Johnson threatened to pull the Brexit deal if Jeremy Corbyn rejects a general election.

Sources said the dramatic developments in Westminster needed to be fully understood and the choreography in Brussels could change.

Donald Tusk, the European council chairman, had been expected to announce on Friday morning, following a meeting with ambassadors, that the EU27 had accepted the delay requested in a letter reluctantly sent by Johnson last Saturday. But senior EU sources said the developments in London had left the situation in flux. An announcement is expected on Monday or Tuesday.

We're now left in the appalling position where there is no possible way to actually leave the EU - as parliament has made it very clear that they have no intention of leaving/the EU has made it clear that they will grant never ending extensions/parliament has no intention of even allowing another GE.

A continual state of 'limbo' - which only further damages the UK.
So sorry the Brexiteers cannot bypass Parliament.

Which has not happened. There are absolutely no 'peoples instructions' re no-deal Brexit. The thing to always be vigilant about is the Hard Brexiteer lie that there is such an instruction.

Not again, don't you have anything else up your sleeve to fall back on.

There was never a deal or no deal in the referendum vote. It was leave or stay.

You know that, yet you keep coming back spouting the same ol' cr_p...????

Boris would secure 'no deal' next week by threatening to make Farage UKs EU commissioner if they extend ????

Yes. There was nothing about the terms of withdrawal. That is the responsibility of Parliament, not some mythical People's Vote. The cheap trick from the Hard Brexiteers is painting all deals as = remain. Shallow and dishonest.

The facts are, we voted to leave. That is a fact, but MP's, the house speaker and a few posters here, do not want that fact implemented because it may upset their own stuff. Fact....

If BJ were to take my tongue-in-cheek suggestion seriously he won't be asking the EU he'll be telling them.

Soubry and Ummuna are bungeed to the chair in the HoP lobby, presumably because all the important players are otherwise engaged.

Barnier: EU not yet able to decide on length of next Brexit extension

Johnson’s threat to pull bill unless there is general election rings alarm bells in Brussels

Michel Barnier has said the EU27 has not yet been able to make a decision on the length of the next Brexit delay due to the ongoing debate in the UK over Boris Johnson’s demand for a general election.

Speaking after a two-hour meeting of ambassadors in Brussels, the EU’s chief negotiator said an “excellent” discussion had not concluded with any clear way forward. “No decision,” he said.

It may now take until Monday or Tuesday for the EU to make public its offer on an extension after parliament votes on whether there will be a general election.

Don't need one, 17+ million provided the fact that we leave. You, and a few others here, can waffle round it all you like, but you all know the vote was leave.

Time for your gang to stop hiding behind your own agenda and respect the vote.

'losers consent'

Without it the winners of the looming GE might as well fit a revolving door @ the supreme court.

But this is not how democracy works - You don't completely ignore the views of pretty much half the population.

Otherwise the ignored people start protesting about the fact they are being ignored and find ways to block you

The country quickly becomes impossible to govern because of the lack of consent - this is all part of what living in a democracy means - people are still allowed protest and to try every legal means possible to prevent the government implementing measures that will harm them.

Consent it not given unbounded by one vote . There lies the way to dictatorship

EU delays Brexit extension decision

Friday 25 October 2019 11:39, UK

Brussels has agreed the need for a Brexit extension but will not make a decision on its length until next week.

The development comes as Boris Johnson pushes to hold a general election on 12 December.

Meanwhile, Downing Street has said if the EU offers a Brexit delay the Government can change the date of departure through secondary legislation, known as a statutory instrument.
