"Organized" armed robber in white steals 400K from Tesco store in Surat Thani

An armed robber held up the Tesco Lotus Express store in the Tha Chana market area of Surat Thani early Sunday morning. He got away with a reported 400,000 baht in cash that was being put into a safe behind the counter.

The robber - height about 160-165 centimeters - was notable for his dress. He was clad all in white with white gloves and was wearing a head mounted torch.

There were six staff in the 24 hour store when he burst in just after 1 am.

Two staff were counting takings behind the counter. The robber grabbed money bags and fled all within one minute.

Region 8 police chief Pol Maj-Gen Apichart Bunsrirote was on the scene at 10 am ordering his men to find the robber without delay.

He said that the thief went into the store via the main entrance. He described him as "organized" saying that this was clearly a well planned robbery.

The exact amount stolen could not be ascertained as the staff were still in the process of counting it.

Daily News said it was about 400,000 baht.

The robbery almost sounds a bit too organized. Maybe, just maybe there was some inside insight.

Only a 9 hour head start but who's counting?

It is to be hoped that the police arrived just after the robbery, and not 9 hours later!

Well it's all quite simple really.  Obviously it's a farang.  He's probably married to a Thai and was getting short of cash for his annual 400K baht he needs to have in his bank account to show immigration when he renews his retirement visa.
