BANGKOK(NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will this month hold an official Loy Krathong event at Rama VIII bridge, and open 30 parks until midnight for festivities on 11th November.

The Governor of Bangkok Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang, today announced plans for this year’s Loy Krathong festival on 11th November at Rama VIII bridge; Khlong Ong Ang canal, and 30 parks in Bangkok, to celebrate and pass on traditional Thai culture.

The main event will take place on the Thonburi side of Rama VIII bridge on 11th November 2019 from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will feature traditional dance and percussion performances, a Krathong contest, a Krathong making workshop using organic materials, and the sale of Bangkok Brand merchandise from 50 districts of Bangkok.

At Khlong Ong Ang canal, the general public can visit and float away their Krathong on 8th-11th November 2019 from 5 p.m. onwards.

30 parks in Bangkok will be open to the general public from 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. on the day, so that members of the public can float Krathong on the lakes, with staff on site to maintain orderliness. Six of the parks however, won’t allow Krathong floating, namely King Rama IX Park, Queen Sirikit Park, Watcharapirom Park, Benjakitti Park, Siripirom Park, and Nong Bon Lake Park.

The BMA will arrange the cleaning up of event venues, canals, and the river from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Chao Phraya River, debris compacting boats will be utilized in the clean-up operations, while district offices will be working with the Department of Drainage and Sewerage on the clean-up of canals in the areas of their responsibility.

Once again time to flood the rivers and lakes with plastic.

Thais sure do love to throw trash around their own country but even more so on this day.
