an old guy has moved into my apartment block and hes just a bully. hes ex army. he stands outside in the alleyway everyday with a steel bar trying to frighten people and by way of introduction got in my face and showed me his pistol. I ignored him even tho he insults my visitors but quite a few people have moved out, including khmers. I tried to be friends with him but hes not capable of it and a few days ago he randomly threw a tantrum at me smashing stuff and shouting "cambodia" ( he speaks no english). now Im a bit sick of him and ready to punch him in the face. anyone had any experience or advice on dealing with these kinds of cambodians?

Move somewhere else, and tell the landlord why.

I dont really want to move (actually I do but it will be out of the country and Im not quite ready). Ive told the landlord Im probably going to move but he doesnt know what he can do. I think the guy is all bluff, my friend held him over a balcony. he did get evicted but the apartment he was in is owned by the guys sister. I dont think anyone likes him but nobody can stop him

He sounds mentally disturbed.

Unfortunately there is no easy solurion. You can try complaining to the police (will need to "tip" them) but no guarantee (1) that they will do anything (will depend on what he has by way of political connections and if he pays them off)  and (2) if they do, that he won't shoot you in retaliation.

The fact that the Khmers moved out should tell you something  I'd suggest you follow suit.

yes, I think he might even have been hospitalized from what Ive heard. he is ex army and his son might be a policeman but I think they are trying to protect him rather then defend him. he laid off for a while after the first complaints and he seems to have disappeared for the meantime. he actually cost his sister 1000s of $ in rent so its not really in their interest to have him harassing their tenants. the tantrum was over a lock that he claims I wasnt locking and he repeatedly smashed against the wall. now it doesnt work so he might be feeling a bit stupid

i wonder if there is any reason why he would be hostile towards you.....hmmmm can't really think of anything off the top of my head.

went over my head. can you think of a reason the Cambodian ladies living there call their husbands to come down and escort them past him because they are frightened he will attack them? have a go

I was just thinking that he might be able to lay his hands on an army AK47 or some such and just shoot the place up during one of his wilder moods. Leave.

Im pretty sure his family will prevent that fortunately

Spelling advice, perhaps

Psycho, as in psychology, psychologist

Phyco killer (of seaweed?)

Years back motorbike riding in NZ, bike ahead had custom registration plate PYSCHO ... a poor investment for the spelling-challenged

no, its not a reference to psychology or psychologist, its spelled perfectly and totally legal. thanks for the concern tho

anyway, hes kept a low profile. whether its because Ive been insulting him when I walk past, or he had to fix his precious lock or family intervention I dont know, but I think hes just a regular bully, tries frightening people but doesnt hang round if it doesnt work
