I've been in Thailand for almost a week now and just worried about the TM30. I am staying with a Thai friend and she is more worried about her university life to complete it. I am just worried I will get a nasty increasing fine or kicked out of Thailand. If I have the documents such as landlord deed ect. can I report? Or what should I do?

For background I am on a tourist visa looking to get work eventually and change to a working visa with a work permit. I haven't stayed at a hotel or anything since I arrived. But filled out a TM6 with the address I will be staying at.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It’s not really your responsibility as a ‘tourist’. However, if you are going to be dealing with immigration it’s in your interest to make sure your landlord submits the TM.30.

If you have a formal tenancy they might accept a report from you as the Possessor.

Any fine wouldn’t be more than 2,000 Baht and there are no consequences beyond that; except an extension of stay etc. might be withheld until a TM.30 is submitted.

Since you are on a tourist Visa here, normally you shouldn't bother at all.

However, if you foresee that you want to extend your stay by applying for an extension of stay at your local IO you MIGHT be queried for a TM30.

Not all IOs enforce TM30 compliance, but in case yours does you could simply circumvent the problem by checking into an Hotel the evening before applying for your extension of stay.  The hotel will do your TM30.  To be on the safe side ask them for a copy of their TM30 filing of you staying there.

You could also register on the IO TM30 website on behalf of your friend and file your TM30 on-line.  In case you want to do that, just PM me and I will send over a step-by-step instruction how to do it.

You might want to stay in a cheap hotel for a night, let them do it,

it will be cheaper than the fine.

That wouldn’t necessarily help. He would need a more permanent address/arrangement to apply for a Non B or extension of stay for work. And a TM.30 would have to have been submitted for that address.

Me also. Haven't heard of an 800baht fine for some time. My extension at CW Oct 8 the io pushed tm30 back to me. Didn't even look at it. First one I have ever done in 7 years. Bit disappointed she didn't want to have a squiz.

It would mean he had a TM30 and would not have to pay the fine

as he's already a week late, and time to sort out how he's going to

do a TM 30 in the place where he is staying ,and his G/f won't do it.

But as soon as he leaves the hotel and stays somewhere else the TM.30 done by the hotel is irrelevant.

TM.30’s are required every time you stay somewhere and the only one that counts is for the place you’re staying at when interacting with immigration.

How are they going to know he left the hotel ?he only needs a few days to sort himself

out with the g/f  who won't do the reporting for him.just trying to give him an option of

how not to pay the fine.

Quote function not working, so I copy-pasted.

Although the fine is certainly nasty, you won't get an increasing fine - they're not cumulative. And a lack of TM30 will not get you kicked out of Thailand, except indirectly if they refuse an extension until you provide one. So many problems have been caused by the TM30 debacle that they seem to have retreated onto the back foot with the whole thing.

You can't actually self report unless you're the possessor and have a rental contract. Your gf could but may not want to, not least since it'd incur a fine for her, as the registration and report will be late. As with finding a job, it might be a case of cross the bridge when you come to it (although it's a good idea to have the documents to hand if you need to go to immigration for an extension). A friend of mine staying in a medium term rental (tourist visa, no contract) got a 30 day extension at CW recently and they didn't mention the TM30 at all.

Relax, the worst thing that can happen to you is a 2000 baht fine. The chances for that to happen are microscopic.

Yes I did, but you need the house book in your hands.

Only copies of the house book is needed when doing a TM30 report.

You absolutely can, just did my own in Chiang Mai on Nov 18.

Dont take que on first floor.

Go directly to 3rd floor, you will be given que there.

First time for TM 30:

Copy of Passport

Arrival Card

TM-30 Form

Second time and after:

No copies

No Form
Just your Passport, they enter new info into computer and will hand write update on the T M 30 receipt in your Passport.

When I went to the I/O in Chiang Mai this month to renew my 30-day visa exempt they gave me a hard time about the TM30. The hotel I had recently moved to - Tarntong Boutique - did not have a clue about a TM30. They made a big deal about going online and downloading the form, in  Thai. ANd then the girl filled the info. into the wrong place. So I had tog et her to run it off again and then I filled it in and went back to Immi and through several lines just to get to make the request for the extension.

Gives one the feeling of not being wanted here.

Just get her house book copy or a copy of her lease and her ID card. Do it yourself and if they levy a fine just get a receipt and pass it onto her, or deduct from anything you’re paying her. Simples.

Nope, a copy of the yellow tabien baan is sufficient, and may be a copy of landlords ID.

And both signed by the landlord in blue ink. My local office requires a signed power of attorney form if self reporting "for the landlord" (but your experience may vary).

Quite sure the hotel wants you, they're just unhappy about the new hard line from immigration. A regular out of town hotel I stay at had very harsh words for them when I visited recently. Along with the ridiculous exchange rates this year, TM30 enforcement has been lousy for business.

I was going to do my extension today but would be unable to pick up my passport tomorrow, Friday (Jomtien). I need to check into a hotel Friday night and I know they always ask for my passport, so will wait until Monday for the Extension.

Immigration's policies of late are intrusive.
