Bans on two farm chemicals delayed, glyphosate allowed under limited use

The usual well thunk out Khun Prayut Chan-o-cha  government policy decision. Pass the law into legislation, whether it be good or bad, and worry about the consequences later.

They never seem to get anything right by trying to be everything for all people. Gutless leader with gutless committees!

Re the remark above, ain't neva gonna happen in Thailand.

As for the now announced delay of the bans, had to figure that was coming somewhere. The current government's environmental credentials are hardly the best. But they are very good at responding to issues where there's money to be made and/or wealthy interests are pushing an agenda.

The health and welfare of the general public, not so much.

ThaiPAN isn't going to be out of a job in Thailand anytime soon....  :hit-the-fan:

The US Agricultural Department asked for a  re think on the chemical

Glysophate and of course the Thai Government insisted the ban would go ahead. All of a usdden the US informed Thailand that it was losing it's  preference in certain exports to the US.  Of course, both sides indicated no connection.

I have a feeling that thailand will soon get it's export preference to the US market re-instated.

Farmers dressed in black gathered on Tuesday in front of Government House to submit a petition to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stating their opposition to the bans on all three chemicals, insisting they could adjust their procedures for using them to ensure safety.

So why haven't they done so in the past?

Anutin and Mananya claim ban on three farm chemicals remains intact

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Deputy Agriculture Minister Mananya Thaiseth have played down the apparent U-turn over the December 1st enforcement of the ban on paraquat, glyphosate and chlorpyrifos by insisting that the ban remains intact.

Both claimed today that the new National Hazardous Substances Committee (NHSC), chaired by Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongkit, did not make any new ruling regarding the ban.

Anutin told the media today (Wednesday) that two representatives of the Ministry of Public Health, who sit on the NHSC, insisted that their support for the ban remains unchanged.
