New PC Questions/Recommendations

Featured Replies

Thinking about a new PC, mainly for gaming -- somewhat specific, actually. I enjoy Civilization II, III, IV, V and would like to try VI.  The problem is how slow V runs on my current machine when I try to play 8 or more civilizations. I have also read that VI can be especially tedious.

So I would like recommendations for CPU, PS, Video card (video chip?), memory, SSD and OS. I currently have W10 but think the memory limited version -- maybe one of the iterations of Linux is better this time around.  I don't want to break the bank, but I do want a system that is reasonable.

Would probably have my wife buy from one of the larger PC shops here in Khon Kaen (I don't get around very well).

TIA

You seem to be suggesting that I not use the TVF computer forum in which I have been posting (off and on) for a decade, in favor in favor of one that is completely unfamiliar to me.

Um, no thanks.

Does that mean a complete PC like i.e. from HP?

Or a customized PC from a shop which builds it for you? In my opinions that is the better idea (if you know what you want and/or can trust them)

If you have a specific game in mind then it's relative easy to check the internet for recommended configurations for that game.

Civilization VI is now already a couple of years old so you don't need the best and fastest.

And don't forget that BIG screen.

I played it for some time. I liked it - for some time. If you really tweak the details then this ends up in real work.

And as far as my limited experience: You have to do certain things to win, i.e. including using religion. I try to avoid religion but that was, for winning, no option. It's about what the game requires from you to win, and not what logic might tell you.
