My question: Best visa to apply for to attempt to get wife to come with me to Australia for a short holiday.

My scenario: Been married to her for 9 months, living together in Bangkok for three years, She does not work, I was working until recently in Bangkok. Currently not employed.

My questions are:

1. Will the Oz embassy ask to see evidence I was working in Bangkok? What in particular?

2. What sort of funds will I have to show to convince them I can support?

3. Any other documents, things I will need to support application?

thanks for any advice.

You might just need to show either your bank account details, but a letter from your employer should do. All they want to see is reason to leave Australia and proof that yall can support yourself. I reckon yall have a very strong case and I am very confident you will get the visa.

My wife (girlfriend of 4 months back then) got a Oz tourist visa with no help from me except for a quick e-mail and no money in the bank, just a letter from her Uni was enough reason to return to Thailand, so yeah, they sometimes even overlook the funds situation if there is a strong enough reason to return.

Let us know when the visa is approved! :o

The embassy has been requesting original bank books with photocopy, original letters of invitation from Australia along with the other usual documentation lately. They appear to have tightened up the tourist visa process especially the reason to leave at the end of the trip part.

A friend who has travelled to Australia a number of times has recently gone through the tourist visa process again and they noted the visa requirements were a lot harder this time. Travel agents who arrange visas for visitors have also mentioned "เพราะตอนนี้ วีซ่าออสเตรเลียผ่านยาก"

difficulties in obtaining visas.

Prepare a strong case providing all the documents requested and present it.
