Strong winds, waves sink fishermen’s earnings

Strong waves three to five metres high in the Gulf of Thailand have hammered the coastal barrier in Ranot district of southern Songkla province.

The waves, coupled with fierce winds, have prevented local fishermen for some months now from venturing out to sea to keep their boats from being damaged. This has kept them from earning a living to support their families.

There is presently no heavy rains in the district, but the waves continue to be strong and high, pounding the coast and causing damage to a wide area.
