Anyone know why a man (stranger) would say ฉัน for 1st person singular when speaking to me?  I rarely hear this and my understanding is it is usually said when speaking with close family or friends. The young man I recently spoke to has a girlfriend.

I asked the same question a few years ago. Got loads of different answers. None of them made sense so I stopped thinking about it and just accepted it. I hear it a lot on the telly, especially the dubbed movies.
