Pattaya - Chantaburi: transport, accommodation

Recommended Posts

Posted

I may travel from Pattaya to Chantaburi after holidays.

I just asked around in Pattaya. The only big bus was Phet Prasert at 04.00 am, a little early maybe. There are vans from Sukhumvit but I prefer big bus. NakonChaiAir goes no further than Rayong. Any other big buses going that way?

Any "clean, reasonably priced" guesthouses to recommend in Chantaburi? I have visited there long ago and the housing scene is not really like Pattaya as I remember. Many accommodation options in Chantaburi outside the center, unfortunately.

Hi

Not sure about big bus alternatives but you could try this website, believe they cover the route, never used them personally.

As to guesthouse suggestion I have stayed at Gems club, central location, staff seemed OK, room was OK,small.

Paid about 500 baht a night.

Thanks. That could be a good option. (At the gem market.) I'll check it out when I get there.  The Gems Club may have blocked Agoda bookings. I entered some later dates but all was "fully booked". I have another reservation to start with.

As for big bus, strangely there only seems to be the early bird at 04.00 with Phet Prasert coming all the way from Mae Sot. But no problem, I'll take a van from Sukhumvit terminal.

Chantaburi used to be a stop over on the road from Sihanoukville to Bangkok but I never stayed long. Good impression first day here. People are often a little more normal when you leave the expat bubbles, I think. My best experiences in Thailand have often been in small places where I have had to stop just to break up trips, type "one Tesco-Lotus sized" places. Chantaburi is a little bigger, let's see how things develop.

There are some modern hotels in Chantaburi close to Tesco-Lotus but I think it was OK to stay in the old town. Robinson being other bigger mall.

On Google maps, in Chantaburi, not far from Tesco-Lotus is also a Passione. It shows photos (but spelling so-so). I don't think it exists. Maybe they took photos of the Passione in Rayong and added to Chantaburi? It looks similar to the Rayong Passione. Or maybe I'm mistaken?  ????
