Gold Shops for "Western-Gold"?

Featured Replies

Plenty of Gold-Shops in Pattaya. Used to buy some Thai Gold for my "entourage" on occasion in the old days. Was always pleased how narrow the Bid/Ask spread for Thai Gold was.

Any reputable Gold Shop that deals in well known Gold Coins (Kruegerrand, Maple Leaf, American Eagle)? Possibly with a narrow Bid/Ask spread. As a referrence, in my home country the Bid/Ask spread is a whopping 5% for those coins.
Would probably have to be an "internationally oriented" Gold Shop, Farangs being a part of the customer base. (in Pattaya). Any suggestions?

not in Pattaya, but the main gold producer in Chinatown Bangkok do import the international coins (and melt it down to use in their stock), I have also seen Chinese golden panda coins, smaller ones like 3g in stamp/coin collecting dealer

Thai gold spread is not that much, for bullions, about 100 baht/baht weight(15.24) grams and around 1000 baht/baht weight for jewellery,

but they do get you with the 'premium' what they charge on top of spot price to sell you for 'workmanship/cost of manufacturing' about 100-500baht per baht weight for bullion and 500-1000 for jewellery piece, this you don't get back when selling.

as for percentage, the bullion spot price for buy is 21,450baht/baht weight and selling at 21,550baht/baht wt, that'll be price in Bangkok at Chinatown, price in Pattaya is probably a bit more

if you get a thai bullion for 1 baht weight at 21,550, they'll add the premium of say 500 for 'block' workmanship or their profit, say you end up paying 22,050 walk out the door, come back and sell back to them you'll get back 21,450, losing 600 baht, that's a spread of 2.7%
