Yeah. There were alot of one hit wonders in the 1980's. Hence I did not include most of them. Some of the bands I did include changes music forever. And some will never be forgotten.

The 1980's. Alot of amazing music. New Order. Depeche Mode. Tears for Fears. The Cure. The Eurythmics, Prince, Cameo, Bowie, Journey, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Human League, Talking Heads, Simple Minds, Billy Idol, Joe Jackson, Pet shop boys, Fine young cannibals, the Clash, Chaka Khan, The Smiths, Kate Bush, Rick James, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, LL Cool J, Boogie Down Productions, NWA, the Beastie Boys, De la soul, Biz Markie, Big daddy Kane, Cool moe dee, Queen Latifah. The list goes on, and on, and on. Some of this music has a time stamp on it, but some of it sounds incredibly fresh, and vital to this day. The 1980's was a beastly decade for music. The 1990's kind of sucked until electronica came along around 1995, and it was another monumental period, until about 2004. Since then? Not much.

Seems to me spidermike007 has read up on the Theory of the Quantum Minimum Effort as well by producing a long, long list of artists with nary a link.  Let me see if I can do some of the heavy lifting for him.

New Order with Dreams Never End off of their '81 debut, Movement.  Any Joy Division aficionado will appreciate this tune.

Depeche Mode with Never Let Me Down Again off of their '87 Music For The Masses LP.

Tears For Fears with Everybody Wants To Rule The World off of their '85 Songs From The Big Chair LP.

The Cure with Just Like Heaven off of their '87 Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me LP.

The Eurythmics with Love Is A Stranger off of their '83 Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) LP.

Prince performing Purple Rain live at American Music Awards in '85.  The title track off of his '84 LP.

Cameo with the title track of their '84 album, She's Strange.  A precursor of rap?  Not my style of music but not for me to choose for anyone.

David Bowie with China Girl off of his '83 Let's Dance LP.

Journey with Girl Can't Help It off of their '86 Raised On Radio LP.  Frankly, I just randomly picked out an 80's song by them as any of their albums would have been the the first I would have thrown at the zombies in Shaun Of The Dead.

Peter Gabriel with Biko off of his '80 Peter Gabriel III / Melt LP.

Human League with The Lebanon off of their '84 Hysteria LP.

Talking Heads performing Burning Down The House live in Los Angeles back in '83.  Off of their '83 Speaking In Tongues LP.

Simple Minds with All The Things She Said from their '86 Once Upon A Time LP.

Billy Idol with Dancing With Myself off of his '81 Don't Stop EP.

Joe Jackson with the title track off of his 81 album, Beat Crazy.

Pet Shop Boys with Paninaro, the B-side to the '86 single Suburbia.

Fine Young Cannibals with Good Thing off of the '89 The Raw & The Cooked LP.

The Clash with Should I Stay Or Should I Go off of their '82 Combat Rock LP.

Chaka Khan with Them There Eyes off of her solo '82 Echoes Of An Era LP.

One of my favourite 80's numbers, The Smiths with How Soon Is Now?  Originally the B-side of the 1984 single William, It Was Really Nothing.

Kate Bush with Running Up That Hill from her '85 Hounds Of Love LP.

A very cool B. Dylan cover.

Great work by Kantner & friends, a hymn to a generation.

Prince's take on a late 70's hit.

As for the balance of the list, well, there's no way on God's green earth I'm going to post any of those "artists."  I do have a reputation to protect (as poor as it is).  Maybe someone else would like to take a stab but not me.

The list does indeed go on and on.  Conspicuously missing are The B-52's.  Private Idaho off of their '80 Wild Planet LP.  Great band!

Well, for the sake of objectivity, one has to be able to admit that just because they are not your style, or just because you do not like hip-hop, or R & B, does not mean they will not be remembered, nor does it mean they were not very significant forces in music, and hugely influential.
