Finding condos/apartments for short-term rent

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Just spent 2 weeks in Pattaya and had a very good time but I'm looking ahead to my next trip and would like to find a condo/apartment that has a washing machine in the room.    There must be some online company that allows users to search for a short-term stay and filters according to things like AC, wifi, washing machine, location, etc.

So my first choice would be an online company that would allow me to do searches but I would also appreciate recommendations for specific condos or apartments (closer to the Walking Street end vs Naklua)

Thank you!

Ha!     My bad.    I should have mentioned that I am well aware of Airbnb but I'd like to expand my search to include condos/serviced apartments that don't participate or advertise in Airbnb.     Thank you.

Huh?    I don't understand.      There are many condos and serviced apartments in Pattaya that don't participate in Airbnb.    Twice I've stayed at serviced apartments near the temple a few blocks from Walking Street.    I just wondered if there's an online booking service that lists such places.    How is that unreasonable?

Agoda homes and hotels is also an option.

Generally the serviced apartments are found in the hotel search engines, many have their own booking website too tho.

You are happy to book the exact same condo with Agoda, but not with AirBnb.  Why is that?

There shouldn't be any companies advertising for less than a 30 day stay in a condo as it's illegal.

Yes, and so is prostitution.  ????

Being chucked out by her isn't as bad a being chucked out of the condo you have rented for 10 days!

Why wouldn't you use airbnb? Do you like to overpay?

Yes, short term rentals are now discouraged at least in most reputable condos in Bangkok. I'm in a monthly rental that I booked with airbnb. The place is very modern, next to skytrain and big c and less than 500 bux all in. It's about 3-4 thousand more than rent but no yearly contract, no deposit and electric included. The serviced apartments will rip you off on electricity bill alone.

Did I say I booked the room through Agoda?    I did not.    It was something I got by going door to door; being able to review places online would be much better and is the reason I asked    ????

If your question is directed to me, my answer is that I never said anywhere that I do not want to use Airbnb.    I like it a lot.    The reason I asked about other online options is because I want more options.

For the amount of condos in Pattaya, very few will rent for less than a month and many want at least three months, it just isn't worth the hassle for a few baht

There is no prostitution for farangs in Pattaya. We pay for their time, and they have sex with us if they want to:-)

In western countries they'd be called "escorts".

That is not as much the case this time of year. Plenty of opportunity to rent out at a Premium over this season. Christmas, New Year, Chinese NY,

Everyone's situation is different.    In my case, I prefer to rent a condo that has a washing machine because I play tennis every day and I have a crapload of clothes to wash every day.    It's super convenient to be able to wash clothes in the place I'm staying...

It's got to the point that if they started enforcing daily rental now, the Chinese and Indians would go elsewhere.

Meanwhile, they are raiding foreign run guest houses and fining them for not having a hotel license.   ????

Did I say you have actually booked????

I asked why you are happy to book through Agoda, but not AirBnB, for the EXACT SAME PROPERTY?

Mmmm, well, put it this way, if they didn't want to have sex with me, I wouldn't be paying for their time. ????

Yes it has gone too far and become established. I doubt the hotel owners can kick up a big enough fuss for anyone to take action against short-let condos. Thank heaven I haven't bought into a condo.... well, one where this is widespread.

Ha!    Ha!     We definitely have a communication problem.    I'm not sure what you mean.     In my own experience, I've never known Airbnb to have a listing that was also on Agoda's website.

It's gone beyond enforcement and has flourished into an industry here.

If they were to seriously enforce it now, the tourism industry would take a huge hit, as the tourists would go elsewhere.

The Base is on Agoda, and AirBnb.  Just one of many.

Holy cow!    That's a surprise to me.   The Base is full of signs that say that short time rentals are illegal and yet rooms are being advertised on Agoda???    And a quick look at your link shows no reference to short time rentals at The Base being illegal.     Wow...

I gather English is not your first language.  Maybe you are being sarcastic, maybe not.

In any case, my question still stands.  Why are you happy to book the EXACT SAME PROPERTY on Agoda, but not AirBnb?

Let's see if I can make this clear.    1.   I like both Agoda and Airbnb.     2.    I have used both for many years.     3.    If I were aware that both Agoda and Airbnb were advertising the very same property, I would chose the company that offered the lowest price.    4.    If the price were the same, I wouldn't care which company I gave the business to.
