Why are they so concerned with plastic bags but couldn't care less about pollution levels?

I left Phuket about 8 years ago,  because  of the locals bad attitudes , rogue taxis and numerous scams .

I left years ago too mate for very similar reasons as you. What a truly dismal place to live.

Quite possibly because they didn't actually have to do very much. There is a massive amount of plastic out there including whole floating islands of the stuff, so a reduction has to be a good thing. T

This will end up in Thai bashing again.

Everybody of us know where we live and that it is useless to compare Thailand with Western countries.

WHy is it useless mate? and who is thai bashing, whatever that means..

Pollution affects everyone living here, foreigenr and thai). nothing wrong with having a discussion about it and shedding light on this governments inability to act in a sensible manner towards it.

looks like we are going to be choking for years to come then

great.

"pressure from america maybe???"

They still use paper bags in the US without handles since the 50's. Why would the US care about plastic bags in Thailand. They don't care about the environment and the latest EPA-boss was handpicked by Donald Trump.

If You know this Govt is not going to do the right things ......what will YOU do?

Whining and complaining?

Who of this Govt will listen to you?

Why have they banned plastic bags...seems the whole banning of plastic bags in supermarkets is way too short sighted.

Plastic bags have not been banned, there is an agreement from an association representing some retailers not to issue them free of charge, that's all...so far.

making people buy bags instead = profit

And "profit" for the environment.

Look around, it's such an ugly sight plastic bags swimming in the rivers, seas, lying on the beaches, left and right of streets, hanging on fences, trees and bushes.

I think, the problem are not the bags but the way they are handled after use. Same with all the other one way throw away articles. People never learn to respect mother earth.
