Bangkok water quality back to WHO-recommended levels, authority confirms

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) said the quality of tap water has returned to normal in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn provinces over the weekend.

 

 

MWA governor Parinya Yasamit said on Saturday (January 18) that the quality of tap water in the metropolitan area had returned to the normal range of chloride in drinking water not exceeding 250 milligrams per litre or electrical conductivity not more than 1,200 microsiemens/centimetre, as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

 

“In the past week, the chloride value measured in tap water in certain areas exceeded the recommended level causing people to experience salinity in the water taste,” he said. “Now that chloride has gone down to the normal range, it should be safe for drinking again.”

 

The MWA governor also recommended that people in Bangkok and its perimeter store drinking water during this weekend by getting it directly from the tap, as water in the reservoir tanks may still have high chloride content because they were stored last week.

 

“Furthermore, please avoid using water from public canals to water your plants, but use tap water instead,” he added. “MWA testing teams have found that the water in Chao Phraya River and canals in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn had high levels of salinity due to a tidal surge, which could damage certain plants.”

Actually Bangkok water has met international standards for the last 40 years and is one of the only systems with real time public access of current water quality at every pumping station.  The issue was sea water due high tides and low fresh water flow making it exceed standards for salts during last week or two and the information was and is provided in real time from this web site.

I am overjoyed for them! now what about the rest of the countries water systems  that are rapidly going bone dry

This is an individual notion.

I know people who drink very expensive water like Evian and brag that they drink only water of 'THAT ' quality. But, when THAT is not available, the downgrade themselves to what is available and still live the same quality of life.

Of course, voluntarily one can degrade one's immune system to a level where he/she needs specialised stuff.

Normal for Thailand maybe...

Thai people are are also NORMAL human beings... just saying, lest some might forget...????

Our own inferiority complex comes out in varying methods, most times in a degrading and disgusting manner.

They only supply water to Bangkok.  Might want to check with the sitting government officials responsible for those areas, from local to national - obviously there is a lot that needs to be done in the long term to improve water storage.  And say our prayers for an early rainy season.

If someone wants to test a sample of pipe-borne water in Thailand, how can it be done? Is there any government authority that does that?

Everything you say is of course quite correct...
I have a very healthy immune system which has indeed been strengthened over the years with the intake of things which were a bit "dubious in quality" ... however when something taste like s***t it generally isn't a good idea to make a habit of it.
