He’ll be born in about 8 weeks ????????

So there's still a bit of time to sort out the basics.

In order of importance .......

1. Is the mom registered with the local government hospital for the free birth?

2. Have you been along for the compulsory disease checks (you and her) yet?

3. Where's the house book you intend to use for the child?

Would just add, Thai government hospital maternity care is about the finest in the world.

Had 4 kids back in the UK, and they never received anything like the care and attention the Thai hospital gave.

(Both pre and post birth, and almost entirely free)

You don't register it with the console, you register it via the online system. Registration is done in UK not Thailand

Looks like you're right John ......... and I was wrong.

(at a cost of 150 quid to register, 50 quid for the certificate, 25 quid postage = 225 pounds)

But first OP needs a Thai Birth Certificate.

And to get that he needs a house book to put the baby in.

Even worse ..........

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/birth-certificates-and-the-full-birth-certificate-policy/birth-certificates-and-the-full-birth-certificate-policy

Reading this, I see since 2014, Consular Birth Certificates issued after 1983 are no longer considered proof of British nationality.

So the one I purchased in 2011 for my kid, is essentially worthless.

(Lucky I bought him a passport at the same time, phew ...... narrow escape)

"As of 01/09/2014 ‘consular birth certificates’ issued for registrations after 01/01/1983 or certified copies of pre 01/01/1983 births issued after 01/01/2014 are no longer accepted by HM Passport Office as evidence of British Nationality or proof of personal/parental details for children born outside the UK. A foreign birth certificate as well as full evidence of a legitimate claim by decent must be provided as for any other birth overseas."

Like I said, some countries have it as a requirement for the child's application, and for obvious reasons.
