A video showed a man at a school on Lopburi holding a boy hostage with a meat cleaver. The man had consumed Ya Ba.

Police from the Sa Bot station attended and lots of neighbors got involved as the man moved slowly around the sports field at the Ban Dong Noi school in the central Thai province.

The police tried to talk him round until after about 30 minutes he called for his wife to take the place of the boy.

The constabulary took advantage of a lull in the proceedings and managed to mount a charge and disarm him.

He was 40 year old Chaiyon and the boy was a relative of his who had just ordained following the death of another relative.

Chaiyon was booked for abduction, drug taking and weapons violations and held in custody.
