BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand’s central bank is expected to keep its benchmark rate at a record low this week, a Reuters poll showed on Monday, although growth has faltered and the spread of a new virus from China is adding to strains on the economy.

The Thai government will not disclose the locations where about 160 people, due to be evacuated from the Chinese city of Wuhan tomorrow, are to be quarantined for two weeks for observation, to avoid possible opposition to their presence from people in the neighbourhood.

As Thailand is about to impose control on prices and distribution of surgical masks and hand sanitizers, China said Monday it urgently needed medical equipment and surgical masks as the death toll from a new coronavirus jumped above 360.

BMA orders halt to high-rise, train route construction for three days to fight haze

Fifteen medical staff who have volunteered to evacuate Thai people stranded in the coronavirus-hit Wuhan city in China will employ the highest caution against the virus and are equipped with full protective gears, Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, Department of Disease Control director-general, and Dr Apichat Wachiraphan, director of Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, said in a joint statement on Monday (February 3).
