The Global Times (simplified Chinese: 环球时报; traditional Chinese: 環球時報; pinyin: Huánqiú Shíbào) is a daily tabloid newspaper under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party's People's Daily newspaper, commenting on international issues from a nationalistic perspective.

Yes, and?? Did I say anything different?

Perhaps its escaped your notice but this virus thing is very much a Chinese national issue, notwithstanding the overseas infections. If you're not interested in hearing both sides of the story, then you're just not interested in anything except China bashing.

Carry on.

So if I got the virus, would this mandatory Thai health insurance cover me at the hospital?

Not sure about local O-A insurance, but most of the Travel (Health) Insurance polices I looked at quickly seem to exclude pandemics and epidemics, including this nCOV19.

Replacement travel insurance (airfare, car, hotel) might cover this virus.

Is there a definitive list of this 'majority of nations' available?

This is a partial list since it wasn't updated in 4 days.

I sympathize, but there is no "majority". At best a handful of countries.

The impact of the infection upon specific age groups is still unknown. This is due to the absence of data from China. What we have outside of China is inadequate to make any conclusion.

There is no factual basis with which to minimize the impact of 2019-nCoV by comparing it to seasonal flu. The impact of infection is significantly different. What we do know with the more deadly infectious diseases is that there is a greater likelihood to require more significant intervention, e.g. ICU care, respirators and  infection prevention protocols.  No country has the resources  to care for  thousands of patients requiring intensive care. It is impossible.  This is what  has happened in China. Thousands of people who may be ill are not being attended to. They in turn are infecting those around them.  This is one of the reasons why China imposed the quarantines.

The number of people who become seriously ill from seasonal flu infections  is almost manageable. I use the term "almost", because every year, emergency rooms in  the EU, and North America become clogged with some very sick people during flu season.  Because of the severity of 2019-nCov, it is impossible to respond if the numbers become tens of thousands.  The goal of public health right now is to slow the spread, to buy time, in hopes that warmer weather  in China will help slow the spread and to have the time to develop a vaccine, and to erect barriers to slow the spread of infection.

For Thailand the big problem will be Burma and its rudimentary healthcare system. It's unlikely that China will close its border with Burma as that goes against the idea that all of China should be locked down, against the recommendation of WHO, issued for whatever reason. How can Thailand block the border with Burma?

Disinformation. This isn't a "side of the story," it's propaganda put out by the Chinese Communist Party. And, no, I'm not interested in hearing straight out lies from government paid editors, "journalists," and wumao agitators.

It bears a striking resemblance to what the WHO report. Anybody recommend a paranoia counsellor? I said reds under the bed crowd with tongue in cheek, but hells teeth!

Do they let elderly Englishmen into the CCP? I'm not convinced that they do.........

Wumao agitators.....???????????? Stop it, you're killing me. ???? I'll laugh my mask off if you're not careful. ????

What is your point here? Is the intent to insult everyone's intelligence with your use of  unsubstantiated statements from an unreliable and untrustworthy source of information.

The Global Times is a daily tabloid newspaper controlled by the Chinese Communist Party's People's Daily newspaper. This is the same group that calls the concentration camps holding Uyhgurs,  "Holiday and Leisure Camps" and  "Education   facilities".

Do you really believe that  a 1000 bed hospital can be built in a week? More like a  detention center dormitory. All that the Chinese have done is build a place where people will be kept.   It is impossible to  have equipped  the facility with the medical equipment and  advanced care  devices common to a basic clinic. It takes time to install ICU equipment and to calibrate equipment. The facility probably does not even have a balanced  air flow and pressure system required to control infectious disease contagion.

Are you aware the  current infectious disease control protocols require patient isolation as in individual hospital rooms? This is why every new hospital being built in the developed world emphasizes individual rooms. Don't tell us that the  Chinese facility respects that basic starting requirement. Do you know what happens when you have 50 patients sharing one toilet?

You reference  patient age demographics as if  your data is reliable. Well, it isn't reliable because it has not been vetted and verified by third parties, specifically WHO. Are you even aware that the Chinese are not being overly co-operative in allowing foreigners  to observe the treatment facilities or to access patients?  What we are being fed is misinformation praising the Chinese with the goal to keep people from panicking.  China has unleashed another infectious disease on the world and its government is in panic mode trying to get its genie back in the bottle.

"Do you really believe that  a 1000 bed hospital can be built in a week?" You're right - wasn't a week but 10 days. Guess you didn't see any of the live streaming video that was broadcast during construction? The rooms are pre-fab. 7,000+ workers. Construction 24 hours a day. I'm definitely not a fan of the Chinese gov, but you got to give them credit for their response and ability to mobilize.

Rear door handle grabbed firmly by 100s of passengers every day?

Wife and I have been making practice runs and it's incredibly hard not to touch stuff. Not a bad idea to carry a handkerchief.

The videos certainly show that your paragraph above is wrong.  Considering a 2 story hospital was built in a week (plenty of time lapse vids around), it does appear quite well equipped.  The air flow is separated and isolated from main airflow.  Each room even has a 2-door 'box'.  One door inside the room and one outside.  These will be used to pass food and medicines both in and out of the room. Pretty much all of what you've said.

They now have patients already in the hospitals.

There's no such thing as a Coronavirus "test kit".  The ONLY way to verify if a sick patient has the virus is PCR-DNA analysis of saliva or mucus.

It's a highly specialised machine that runs 24/7/365 doing hundreds if not thousands of DNA sequencing tests simultaneously.

No kit exists, sorry to burst your bubble. ????

Quote

NANJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Experts have developed a rapid nucleic test kit for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in the city of Wuxi, east China's Jiangsu Province.

The kit can detect the virus within eight to 15 minutes, according to the city bureau of science and technology.

The kit has high sensitivity and is easy to use and transport, according to the bureau. It will be vital for the prevention and control of the epidemic.

The kit was the joint work of experts from the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention and a Wuxi-based high-tech company. The company received a notice to develop the kit on Jan. 20.

The kit is undergoing mass production. The company said it can produce kits for 4,000 people a day, and the city government is helping the company expand production.

The first batch of kits is already in use at the frontlines in Hubei Province.

There are others developed outside of China.

The RO of this virus in recent studies was put as high as 4.08. The who estimated it to be at 1.4 to 2.3 on Jan 23.

I'd imagine a taxi driver would be able to pass the virus on at even a higher clip then a normal person. Being they are in close contained quarters with so many different people a day. Very scary situation.

Just riding with a lot of the taxi drivers is scarier to me.

Requires a lot of manual work and getting a viable sample is likely also manual work.

Here's the instructions from Thailand's National Institute of Health's lab ( it says so on the URL itself, nat-inst-health ) :  https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/coronaviruse/conventional-rt-pcr-followed-by-sequencing-for-detection-of-ncov-rirl-nat-inst-health-t.pdf?sfvrsn=42271c6d_4
