Popular Post webfact
Coronavirus: Pattaya's speed boat operators facing bad times Picture: Siam Chon news Siam Chon news reported that one of the worst hit sectors of tourism in the wake of cancellations from China due to the coronavirus outbreak is sea transport companies and speedboat operators. One large company said that their business is expected to be obliterated for three months. If things don't improve after that there will be mass redundancies in the industry. Siam Chon news Chief of the NEP group Natthapong Manasom painted a grim picture after the virus became public knowledge last month and agents started contacting him with the bad news. His main business is Chinese tour groups. Right now he has no customers at all. He expects that this will be the case for three months. Some staff have left. Others are working 10 - 15 days this month but only on things like boat maintenance. Siam Chon news Everyone will be on full pay for a month but then they will be remunerated on days worked. Some staff have asked to go back to their hometowns in the meantime to find alternative employment. If things don't improve after three months he foresaw mass redundancies in the industry. Popular Post dcsw53
There is an opportunity here. Ko Larn has been off the radar of any sensible person because of the tidal wave of mainly Chinese flooding it every day. Why not now train and re-deploy the unemployed boat people co clean the place up, renovate, and tackle the enormous trash problem they have there ? Result : Jobs created and an island people would want to go to. Why not ? Because this is Thailand, this type of thinking is off limits 43 7
Popular Post RichardColeman
Was in Pattaya on the beach on Monday about 10 am - about 80 boats, mostly off shore, Chinese cuing for 2 boats. The TAT spin of mass Chinese in 2 months really is believed by these fools 3
Popular Post mikebell
Last year, I stayed at the Hard Rock Cafe overlooking the bay. You could not see the water because of boats or Beach Road because of coaches. The stench of diesel hung in the air. I am not shedding many tears at this news. 30 1

Popular Post geriatrickid
There will be tremendous benefits to offset the tourism changes; - Water quality will improve - Noise and ambient air quality will improve - Fewer vehicle fatalities - Some very nasty people will be hurt financially. 33 1 6

All the boats are in the bay because they got kicked out of Bali-High to be replaced by a big blue EMPTY parking lot ( that was promised to be made into a park)...........So its not the boat operators fault that they are all parked in the bay.. 6

Some people resent businesses being successful and then gloat in their potential downfall. Many hard working people are losing their liveliehoods through no fault of their own. 7 3
Popular Post dallen52
Its called Corona, but could be Karma. These operators gouge and rip off tourists and possibly never think about putting something away for a slow season or something like this happening. The thai government has to seriously consider looking at welfare reform and benefits for workers. But I suppose you have to be paying income taxes for that... Chinese are banned from movement until March by the Chinese government. Oh well, maybe Songkran will see the improvement? I don't think so though... 3
spiekerjozef
If they miss the chinese tourists so much, they've got boats. So Koh Larn - China, Daily express tour boat, 18 day roundtrip. Edited February 5, 2020 by spiekerjozef
