Not much of an apology: Health minister Anutin unrepentant after face mask tirade against "farang"

In Thailand he's the leader of Bhumjaithai Party and important for holding the coalition government together so he can pretty much say what likes.

Yes, but he's not the "real" leader of BJT.

2 minutes ago, monkfish said:

On top of that he is very popular amongst Thai's for his part in legalizing Medical Cannabis and making dangerous pesticides Illegal.

Except that he's whiffed on both of these initiatives.

A single foreigner refused, which he took as justification to slag off every single farang here? And he won't apologise? There are many things I could say about his suitability for office and overall

  • purest racism

  • He should be fired immediately for 2 reasons  1. being a health minister, he should at least know this mask protects from nothing  2. telling tourists to get out because they do not want to

I think you would find.... as they always have been, Westerners and western influences have been eyed as a threat by the elite here. I mean why would they want to change anything? The agenda here isn't to advance or improve the country or the lot of your average Thai. Maintain the status quo at all costs

And thereby maintain the cash flow. That's the important thing...

Yes for 2-300 baht....i change them every day and we need many for our family....like 30-50 or so...

This guy should know he would be better handing out nitrile gloves rather than masks anyway.

They are expensive and very uncomfortable. But the government told us that we can get masks at the Blue Shops. No idea what shops these are and where you can find them. But now the WHO tells us that we should not use masks if we are not sick. I think I will start to ignore this virus. It is simply to complicated.

I have to say I feel more and more uncomfortable everyday...living here and what the future holds. I am lucky in as much as I don't have money invested here in property etc but still have considerable assets I would hate to have to walk away from. Tourism is down no question, but it was well down before this virus and I think not only because of a slow down in the world economy. This has been coming for a long time and as someone said you reap what you sow. Perfect storm...agriculture, manufacturing, export, tourism....everything in the doldrums and on some fronts I don't see any of it coming back anywhere near where it was.

One thing I think they give little creedance to is the income farang expats coming here to live must generate. Particularly initially building homes, setting up home, vehicles etc. A lot of this would go unreported but must be a good income injection to some of these villages / local communities and Thailand as a whole. Areas like Surin and Burriram were some of the poorest and undeveloped areas in Thailand until the farang money started pouring in. What about the loss of patrons to the bars and bar girls in Pattaya / Bangkok. Surely the sponsor money must be lean now, albeit if they were only supporting phone and bag shops lol

There has been so much negative social media about coming to Thailand to live last 2 or 3 years. If you were even considering it surely a quick google search would be putting doubts in your mind. In my view only a fool would come here and invest in property etc thinking they were going to retire here and live happily ever after. In any case the well being or advancement of the country doesn't seem to be the goal here. Only the elite keeping the personal money ball rolling. Most of us have choices. I feel sorry for the average Thai battler, who will never be able to get out from under... of which there are tens of millions.

I do believe he is or who is then?
Except he is very popular for both those initiatives don't expect he will be removed any time soon.

Okay, okay. Next time when I apply for my retirement extension I will come with a mask.

This man should look up the meaning of the word advice. He is treating it like it was an order.

With the things he say and the way he say it, I guess there is not many foreigners that wants him as a friend either.

Not really he said Farang which refers to white caucasian and he praised all asians for wearing masks.

Aaaaaaw, did the underdeveloped man-child get his fragile ego hurt because one big bad white Caucasian cautiously declined to accept the crappy mask he was offered?

Poor baby!

You refuse a gift from me? Don't you know who I am? I nearly always get nothing but deference from my people. You showed me none. How dare you! I am a big guy. A very important man. I am a Govt. minister! Such insubordination.

I sort of hated foreigners before. But now it is just too much. I just cannot deal with someone not treating me like a big wig. Foreigners go home. You do not know who I am!

And you thought it was bad having a convicted drug smuggler with a fake degree as a cabinet minister.

Surprising that no Thai member of this forum reacted to this statement which is unfortunately true.

But certainly they find it quite normal

I'm confused as to how the virus could not be on his hands as he hands them out - maybe the farang simply feared HE had the virus as he didn't have 'CURED' or 'VIRUS FREE' stamped on his forehead

That's about it. Sad no? Prayuth must be really hard up for expertise if he gives this guy house-room.

I give him 2 days and he will be removed from office and probably end up in some massage parlour.

In Thailand? You must be kidding!

Much more likely his strong words qualify him to be the next prime minister or, at least, national immigration chief.

What does he mean with "don't look down on Thais". Not so easy for a normal sized Westerner? Should we walk on our knees?

This is the whole problem of Thailand.( although tongues  have been loosening for two years; )
I hope that one day this problem will be solved, hoping that the guillotine is not the solution; there are more subtle ones ...

Farangs are not used to wear uncomfortable masks because - opposite China and Thailand - the air is always good/not bad in their home countries. And it´s not a pleasure to wear masks all day long during the vacation.

Sounds to me like more farangs got butthurt if the posts on TVF is anything to go by.

Wow! Thai apologist extreme. So you're not butthurt by being called a "F"&*ing white westerner" and blamed for the spread of coronavirus in Thailand? If you're so enamoured with ai Anutin why don't you take his advice and throw yourself out of Thailand?

.

Sure, for farangs like you who have and are invested in Thailand. But I think you are in the minority. I believe that most aren’t contributing as much. Just look around and see how many are just living in 5,000 baht rented accommodation and going around on cheap Honda Waves or just riding baht buses. Bulk of their spending would be at the cheap bars and that is hardly enough to even keep the bars afloat.

What a truely odious person this Anutin is.

Where does he get all his hate from ?

Yes, Beggar. Ignore the virus. Let natural selection take its course.

You're living in your very own dreamland. That's not how the majority of expats live.
