Thailand is doing a good job and more compassionate than certain ' more developed' countries.

The countries that closed the door  exercised their primary duty of care to their citizens.

Details of Covid-19 were sketchy at best and the people entering from China could not be counted upon to self quarantine. You are delusional if you believe that Thailand's position is based upon compassion. It is based upon financial reasons.

Yes indeed, and defies what we  know so far about Covid 19. IMO, Thailand either does not have reliable data or  is holding back information.

I'm sorry it seems like a big cover up how can the cases all over the world are multiplying yet here they are stagnant just because the government does not want to upset the Chinese or it's people I would like to know the real figure but guess we are all mushrooms kept in the dark and fed bull####

Thailand reports new case of coronavirus, total now 33

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has recorded one new case of coronavirus, bringing the total in the country to 33 since January, a health ministry official said on Tuesday.

That's arguable.  The published numbers are all over the map.  The 20% includes the knock on effect of shoppers buying stuff to bring back home and sell it to defray their expenses, and buying condos to hide ill gotten money.  Several of my friends in China fund their overseas travel by sneaking stuff back in duty free.  On Euro or USA trips, it's a Rolex or a Gucci bag (because there's no punitive luxury tax).  In Thailand, it's other goodies that don't incur crazy luxury taxes.  I see entire suitcases full whenever I check into a flight to China. 

 

And, of course, that stuff doesn't get rolled into some published tourism/GDP numbers.  That's the nature of smuggling and hiding money- even on a small scale.  But multiplied by millions of tourists, it adds up.

Based on destinations for outward travel from Wuhan/Hubei, Thailand should have had by far the most potentially infected travellers coming in. Any ideas why there aren't more cases? (Or evidence pointing to fudging/undercounting?)

 

(China will have to relax restrictions on its citizens soon, so nowhere - particularly a country without restrictions on travel from China - is out of the woods just yet...)
