madmen
Probably the best outcome for him. Probably doesn't have the 800k and unlikely to have health insurance Back home under his social security umbrella is the best result and thais won't have to pick up his medical bill when he deteriorates

He must be spending at least 1200 baht a day on accommodation, food, drinks, transport, medicines, doctors/hospital visits etc - that's 102,000 baht that Thailand is better off. Yet another example of how little the Thai "government" cares for it's people! for sure this guy was spending money, none of it was filling their coffers though, they simply don't care that "others" were making a living from his spending. 1

Try 4k a month for a room where the owner pays no tax, soup carts where owner pays no tax, no money for visa and 10000% no health insurance Overstayers do not have any money, that's why they overstay Massive liability 2 1

Let's not jump to conclusions on his being on overstay. I personally know of a few elderly farangs who do not know what day it is, their wives have to keep track of stuff... 2 1

Of course you feel safer here. There are fewer foreigners on overstay walking around with zimmer frames. Everyone knows this type of criminal is the most dangerous. Popular Post Gecko123
This <deleted> affects morale in the expat community even if your papers are all in order. It creates a climate of not feeling welcome, that the government is looking for opportunities to kick people out of the country, and creates a climate of distrust and paranoia. Many people on retirement visas are getting up there in age. People forget, people get sick, all the paperwork for 90 day reports, TM-30's, bank statements, visa renewals, trips to immigration become more burdensome the older you get. It is stressful to think that if you had a medical or personal emergency or condition that prevented you from fulfilling every last immigration requirement you could be summarily kicked out of the country no matter how long you have lived here or how long you have been in full compliance. The Thai authorities seem to think that there is no connection between expat community morale and the desire for tourists to visit Thailand, when in today's interconnected world there's a close correlation. The covid-19 virus has decimated Thailand's tourism industry and a global economic slowdown is almost certainly looming on the horizon, and immigration is arresting elderly over stayers like there are an endless supply of tourists dying to take their place. I think Western tourism to Thailand has been permanently damaged by the current government. The government has not only killed the tropical retirement dream which drove a great deal of Western tourism, but they have also committed the unforgivable sin of treating Westerners as if they were less desirable guests in the kingdom because they didn't spend as much as visitors from other countries. People don't forget that sort of thing. This resentment is what lies behind so much of the otherwise inexplicable schadenfreude about Thailand's current tourism and economic woes expressed on social media. Popular Post herwin1234
i dont get it. sure, its a sad story, i feel sorry for the Belgium guy. But he overstayed, and we dont know the full story, so immigration has every right to arrest him. And seriously, which one of the forum farangs would have helped the Belgium guy anyway? bc its obvious he is in trouble. For all we know, immigration might have carefully studied his case and situation, and determined sending him back to Belgium is the best for him. 1 2
