That's just simply wrong.  The fatality rate for COVID is at least ten times that of the flu.  You really shouldn't be repeating false information.

People don't die by percentages. The numbers for flu are colossal and saying 150k dead is better than 4k is just absurd.

Well that kind of defeats the purpose of a travel ban.. Plenty of European transit U.K on business trips !!

You make a good point.

This suggests that the UK will also implement a ban on EU travel or ban people from traveling on to the US if they've been in the EU recently.

I expect some kind of ban on travel from the EU to the UK to come very soon, within days.

What is your point exactly?  More people die from heart disease every year.  Does that mean we should ignore the COVID?  Listen to the doctors.  The only people bringing up the flu is Trump and he's an idiot.  Why are you listening to an idiot?

No double standard. Obama did not try to downplay risks and acted quickly.

"Obama’s acting director of health and human services declared H1N1 a public health emergency on April 26, 2009. That was when the United States had only 20 confirmed cases of H1N1 and no deaths.

Two days later, the administration made an initial funding request for H1N1 to Congress. Eventually $7.65 billion was allocated for a vaccine and other measures."

It took 3 months to get it declared a pandemic which was June. Obama admin declared it a national emergency in October. Those are the actual facts. You have no idea if this will be better or worse than the swine flu, but most certainly the media and the lefts reaction are exponentially worse

The biggest problem facing the US is the chronic bad health of many of the population in terms of obesity, diabetes, COPD and the like. The virus wreaks havoc on the immunosuppressed and it is one reason why Thailand (with it's great diet and up til now a fairly healthy population) and the hot and humid temperature that I think is keeping Thailand thankfully spared at the moment.

Someone must have had a very stern conversation with Trump, and made him aware that he was not only causing deaths, but also causing the markets to crash, by his casual nature, and his flippant attitude, during a national health emergency. And they probably made him aware that his own personable fortune was shrinking. He seems to have all of a sudden changed his tune, and now he is acting presidential, perhaps for the first time in 39 months.

Someone thinks they can read minds and pretend that they can read minds and hearts, again

The “actual” facts or “alternative” facts?

You can think of me as a “hater” if it makes you feel better, but at least I am not a member of a personality cult.

It doesnt make me feel better, it makes me feel both sadness and pity towards folks that are so consumed with hatred to their fellow citizens that they will regularly insult them like calling them...say....members of a personality cult. Simply because they dont share your righteous worldview.

So sad. So pathetic.

Are you becoming a non hater? You think he is doing something right? Does that mean that my approval of Trumps speech takes me out of the deplorable box?

Fake facts - fat free facts - pesky experts and stuff. Rationality, reason and intellect stuff that used to matter before the pesky internet and the hive mind of lumpen became the dominant discourse.

I think there has been a backlash as this newspaper article stated......

Coronavirus: US criticised for response to outbreak, allowing it to spread undetected.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12316148

The Trump administration has been slammed for its own handling of the disease, after Vice President Mike Pence, who has been tasked with leading the US response to the disease, admitted last week that there were not enough diagnostic tests to meet demand.

………After days of playing down the threat of the virus, Trump blamed Europe for not acting quickly enough to address the novel coronavirus and claimed that US clusters were "seeded" by European travellers.

Ah, the "blame someone else game" a la trump.

And as for a suggestion about "reading trumps mind". Lol, nothing to read!!

It appears that like many Trumpers that you may have problems reading. Try inserting .....Obama’s acting director of health and human services declared H1N1 a public health emergency on April 26, 2009.

The article - the 6 month claim -  was published on Prntly, which describes itself as a conservative news website that defends Trump. It has been denounced by facebook; snopes, and other fact checking sites

The article goes on to say that "it wasn’t until six months after" H1N1 became a global pandemic that "then-President Obama declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic, by that time, the disease had infected millions of Americans and more than 1,000 people had died in the U.S."

Not only is this timeline wrong, but the story and headline eliminate important facts and distort others, imparting a false narrative that social media users are resharing.

Get real, Trump is and always was, one of the biggest liars on the planet.

Sorry, I got the events off of snopes and the ap. To keep trying to pretend that you know this will be a worse outcome than other outbreaks is just another irrational emotional twisting of reality to feed the narrative that you desire.

That is quite a triggered ridiculous statement. You either have a vote or you don't. That is your measure of what you can do.

Please ask some Americans if they want more weapons, or a functioning health system.

All too late now that virus replicating and infecting at the same rate of Italy.

Did Trump seem hoarse and wheezing to anyone else who watched?

I did pick up on the voice. Of course, it could have been from his arguing with others about the health threat being reality.

"This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history.”

China testing 200,000 people a day, South Korea testing 15,000 people a day and the most aggressive & comprehensive effort in the USA is testing "barely" 5,000 people a day..... because no available test kits ..... but at the beginning of this mess, Trump did say they had millions in inventory

He has always seemed to have nasal problems and a phobia about germs. Knowing what he must now know about what is to happen he must surely be terrified without the resolve that his military counterparts have honed in battle and discipline
