REUTERS/Athit Perawongmetha BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported 32 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday in the largest daily jump in infections since the outbreak began, bringing its total tally to 114, health officials said. The new patients include 17 people infected at pubs and boxing stadiums, persons who were in contact with foreigners, and those who returned from overseas, Sukhum Kanchanapimai, the health ministry's permanent secretary, told a new conference. There are 51 others waiting for test results, Sukhum said. The health ministry will on Monday propose to a virus center chaired by the prime minister to reduce people entering Thailand, to close entertainment places with high risk, and to cancel people gathering activities, Sukhum said. The ministry will also disclose places, where patient have been found, he added. On March 11, Thailand said it would temporarily suspend issuing visas on arrival to visitors from 19 countries and territories, including China, to contain the spread of the coronavirus. One person has died of the virus in Thailand. Thirty seven people have recovered and been discharged from hospital. First to report and the lowest infection rate. The Thai health service must be the best in the World (or the figures are massaged). You make your choice. Popular Post Dogmatix
Manila locked down with only 100 reported cases. That seemed a tacit acknowledgement of many more undetected cases. A Filipino academic was saying on Al Jaz that they don’t have enough testing kits and there’s no way to estimate how many cases there may be. He lamented the fact 48 hours notice of the Manila lock down was given which resulted in a massive exodus. I guess the countries in Asia with ineffective, corrupt Governments are getting to the end of phase 1 of their strategies which involved lying profiteering from essential supplies and suppressing information but otherwise doing nothing but frittering away precious time. This will turn out not to be successful. Soon we will see what phase 2 will look like.
Popular Post Dumbastheycome
Why is it that there seems so much conviction that the Thai authorities are telling lies? They can only report the numbers of confirmed victims, ongoing status and any deaths. What people seem to want to ignore is the thousands that have come under investigation, ongoing or cleared. That airport arrivals feature is obviously because they are being screened like ducks in a row. Expectations that other than those who have the financial capacity to pay for a test unless they present at a medical facility in dire need of intervention how would it be possible to screen and test a population at large? Testing is a "confirmation" of positive or negative. Useful if positive to attempt to identify others at possible cross infection. But the obvious reality is that it is already in the community. Instead of harping on about "testing" people should adopt best practice and advise others to do also without involving hype and pointless paranoia. 4 2 2
