Pattaya / Cambodia visa runs now cancelled.

Recommended Posts

I thought the 'safest' way to get a visa would be to travel to Pattaya and use one of the many visa run services available. None would help. Some said they can drive me to the border and back but can't help with the visa itself.

Another said dont even bother as I'm English.. Regardless of the fact I've been in Thailand since Jan 28th!  Doesn't seem to matter.

Can ANYONE JUST TELL ME HOW TO GET A VISA EXTENSION IN THAILAND RIGHT MOW? Thanks.

I've made 2 attempts over the last week to get a 30 days extension in Chiang Mai to no avail.

Evrytime they've said they are too busy.

I wanted to get it before travelling to Pattaya tomorrow.

I will try to get in Jontiem but expect it to be even busier the Chiang Mai immigration with land border closing daily

You are allowed one extension. So next plan.

Exactly why I'm here. I have no next plan.

Would going to the British embassy help?

Surely many others are having the same problems.

Can anyone advise?

Overstay for 2 months and pay a 20,000 fine?

No guarantees, but this is the best chance that does not require help from your embassy.

  1. Get a Cambodian e-visa for entry at Poi Pet. This scary, given the reputation of Thai immigration there, but it is the only land crossing from Thailand that accepts the e-visa.
  2. See if any casino buses are still running to the border. If not, you will need to use regular public transport (which from Pattaya is pretty time consuming.
  3. Cross your fingers.
  4. If possible do your in/out.

Actually, Had Lek /Koh Kong border normally also accepts Cambodian E-visa. But, of course, nothing is normal now.

Just finished my most mad visa run ever. Was having a drink by the pool at 5:30pm in Siem Reap and got an email 'sorry, all AA flights cancelled'.

No advice to me at all, just sorry. Asked at AA office, completely useless, had no idea what was happening, one girl suggested I might get on the last flight today, but couldn't sell me a ticket, so I could try at the airport check in.

Panicked tuktuk drive later turned up at the airport check-in, and they changed my cancelled flight at no charge to me. Didn't even have time to check out of my hotel.

Isn't it shut due to relocation?

Hi all... I got back into Thailand this morning using poipet/aranyaprathet, 30 day stamp.

I went yesterday from Bangkok, got into cambo but had to stay over night "no exceptions". Even though the law could have changed overnight "no exceptions". So regardless if you are aserial border runner that effectively lives in Thailand you have to stay the night.

Immigration were strict and wanted all flight details.

If you go today. Stay the night. Return tomorrow you should be ok.... I would print all docs and make it neat as thais are fussy with scruffy docs.

Won't they be needing the Health Certificate and proof of insurance?

That is unknown at this time. By air it is will be required to board a flight to here at midnight today.

Nothing about land border crossing has been announced yet as far as I know.

Medical cert required for all travellers from Sunday, 22.

Post above is correct. From 22nd you'll need these docs. I had a generic hospital medical cert for 80baht...they didn't even look at it.

They were also (it seemed) randomly selecting some people to download the monitoring app.

Protip (probably worth stickying)

.... If you think you'll have to be using this app.. I urge you to install it ahead of time as people were going mad that the app kept crashing, not working with their phone, WiFi being slow, Thai immigration had zero training in the app it seemed, the translation to anything other than Thai English is inconsistent etc.. It's called...

Aot Airport.

It requires you to fill a covid check, which asks for details you would expect to find on an immigration paper. Taking a photo via the app seemed to crash the app for many, take the photo of your passport first.

So if I go to poipet I can do a visa run?

Perhaps. Given the reputation of Thai immigration at that crossing, I would be very nervous. You might end up stuck in Cambodia. If desperate, and feel it is your only option, maybe try.

Is it 'easy' to get into Cambodia then?
Stuck in Cambodia is better than Have to fly back to UK
