Narat Sawettanan

Covid-19 tests of prisoners who were at risk of being infected in Saraburi province were negative.

Corrections Department director-general Narat Sawettanan said that after some prisoners were rumoured to be infected with Covid-19, each prison that had the risk decided to recheck its prisoners.

Chachoengsao Central Prison, Phetchaburi Central Prison and Prachinburi Prison are still awaiting test results.

The director said that prisons all over the country have stopped visitors from meeting inmates and meetings will be held only via the video conference platform.

He said that new prisoners would be treated as a group with Covid-19 risk and had to be quarantined for 14 days.

Wisit Wisitsora-at, permanent secretary at the Interior Ministry, and the court are discussing management of suspects who are not allowed bail or who are sentenced to imprisonment to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in prisons.
